I thought the omd was supposed to be smallish?

Once you add any lens then the thickness also becomes negligible. This is why I prefer a larger grip.
Not if it's a pancake it doesn't, slim bodies fit into a jacket pocket better, a body like the GH2 doesn't. If you prefer a deep grip then you are better off with a DSLR.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 is 2% (3 mm) wider and both of the same height.
Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 is 81% (33.9 mm) thicker than Olympus OM-D E-M5.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-GH2 [444 g] weights 11% (44 grams) more than Olympus OM-D E-M5 [400 g] ( inc. batteries and memory card).

If that's not "smaller" I'm not sure how you define "smaller".

I havent seen a single image that is superior to the GH2.
Should be easy. Stick a 45mm F/1.8 lens on the OMD and GH2. Shoot indoors in low light. With the OMD you should be able to use 1/30th handheld which is good for many situations. With the GH2 you will need 1/100th or 1/60th if you are really steady. IIRC there was a blog post that proved the OMD IBIS was good for at least 2 stops. I bought an EPM1 for my vacation, but may switch to the OMD or GX1 - OMD is on preorder. I like the size of the GX1 and IBIS of the OMD. While many claim they can hold a camera steady at 1/30th, I am honest. :)

I really like the GH2, but it is way too big (depth) for me - already have a big camera. Here is the G3 vs. OMD, and you can see even the small G3 is a lot thicker...

Even the GH2 with 20mm pancake will stick out further than the grip. The biggest limitation for pocketability is the protruding EVF.

Whats interesting is that its even bigger than the NEX7.. which has a pop up flash, tilte LCD, and no EVF hump.
Interesting that some people here systematically seem to overlook certain features of the E-M5. First Adventsam overlooked the stereo mics (in all likelihood because the camera doesn't come with a big sign saying "stereo mic" on top as does the GH2). And you apparently overlook that the E-M5 has a tilt screen just like the NEX 7 (although it's an OLED rather than a mundande LCD).

Now speaking about humps and such, let me point out, since both of you forgot that too, that the E-M5, unlike the GH2 and the NEX 7, has a unit known as IBIS, including sensors for five different types of camera movement, as well as a port for additional acessories and that both of these feature might conceivably require some minimum amount of space. ;)

Why would it be eccentric? The GH2 is clearly the superior hybrid, and I havent seen a single image that is superior to the GH2.
Not surprising when you keep your eyes shut. And no, don't open them. You might be in for a rude awakening. ;)

Check your glasses, am not seeing anything there
Well, since I see a difference and you don't, may be you should check your glasses. Every single feather barb is sharper in the EM5 image. In addition, EM5 image is definitely less noisy.
depends on the focus at the time?
I think that both images captured at least a part of the bird in focus.
My point that there is nothing better than GH2 is fully justified and the form factor aint winning me over, I've dumped the OMD idea already, I'm focused on glass, OMD is a big let down for 2 years down the road from GH2 ;-)
I am looking to get one for the better highlights retain, in-camera curves adjustment, the dials, and the roll stabilization. I also like the looks, and the emotional attachment is worth about $150 for me.
I havent seen a single image that is superior to the GH2.
I think that the EM5 sparrow shot at the bottom of this page http://www.fourthirds-user.com/forum/showthread.php?t=10822&page=3 is clearly better than the GH2.

You can see that the hump is for the standard hotshoe and IBIS sensors and not really for the EVF.

Since I already own a 24MP Sony sensor camera (with IBIS), the NEX 7 is out for me (lacks IS and focusing is not as good). As for size, it bugs me that the NEX camera lenses are so darned big. It kills the the whole concept for me, and forces me to look elsewhere.

Why the us vs them lines?

I liked my GH1 and now GH2 and GF3 as much as anyone but am delighted to see Olympus ante up with a high end body in the m43 line. We all win because m43 is a stronger platform as each day goes by with multiple body offerings from casual to enthusiast and more and varied lenses by the day.

Who ever said the OM-D was tiny anyway? I thought the most common line was that it was much smaller than it appeared to be in pics (without any reference objects).

How small is smallish? It's smaller than my Fuji x100! And why do people bash each others cameras? Just buy whatever the hell you want and shut up. Im getting an em5 for its long list of features and more than decent IQ. If you like other cameras better then that's more in stock for us. Sell your dslr for a kodak p&s for all I care. We need to stop convincing people how awesome some cameras are cause they re never gonna change their stupid mind. Besides we re only driving up demand if we succeed anyways.

On another note, why isn't it here yet! Im losing my mind in anticipation. Wasting my time scouring the internet for hope but end up wasting my time on lame ass forum posts like this.

Prepare for some entertaining posts should he really get the O-MD.
When the OMD was first announced he had an almost identical post. Then he had a meltdown and posted a bunch more nonsensical silliness.

I guess we are in for some more.

btw, I hate how the GH2 lacks IBIS. It means blurry images and shakey video.

What´s that noise?

From one of the Canon Forums:

'I just came back from my first holiday with the 5D II (I think my wife was there as well). '

You have to understand: Nothing shall be better in any regard than what the OP allready owns.

It doesn not have much to to with rational thought. He just wants to dislike the O-MD so he doesn't have to buy another camera and then make 20 threads a month about how it's the best camera ever and the new GH-3 has no chance against it ;)
So it is smaller and lighter even with the optional grip attached but you somehow manage to think that is a problem... come again :)

You are quite right, it does look better than the GH2. I was hoping on the GH3, but as you say, this is looking pretty darn good. Well it must do if you have to go around looking at it all the time, you are not alone.

Besides which, we are seeing some great shots and results from it now in here, not so much with the GH2 I see now. Interesting times. Get one, I might as well yet at this rate. Bet it will be great in LR4 soon huh.

All the best and grab one for sure, hey I can't blame you one little bit. ;)

Danny.

Oh right, like the guy going on and on about the (marginally usable) Panorama and (quite unusable) HDR modes of his Sony camera and that Olympus are mad for not including such "essentials" in their new cameras...
