When will 70D be announced?

Does the recent appearance of the 60Da indicate an extended delay before we will see a 70D? Does anyone have an educated guess about when an announcement could be expected? I would like to see what the new double-digit D model offers before deciding on it or the 60D (or the 7D).

Until it is announced any answer you get is pure speculation. Get the camera you want now and don't worry what the next model might or might not have.

How about another way of looking at it. What are the likely events that new cameras get announced at? Trade shows that kind of thing.

I noticed the below when looking at the WIKI for each body.

60D announced on August 26, 2010

7D was announced on September 1, 2009

50D announced the camera on 26 August 2008.[2] The camera was released on 6 October 2008.

40D was initially announced on August 20, 2007 and was released at the end of that month.

So is there an event in late August that Canon announce that product line at or pure coincidence?

I love the 60D, had one that I sold as I was offered a great price (same as grey import) it was bought on release and is coming up on 2 years old. Now I am looking at replacing it. Either with a new 60D or waiting. I can borrow another body to get me through till the 70D or 7D MK II or whatever comes out. Doesn't mean I will stop shooting!

I would just like to make an educated decision on when and what to buy next time.

Thanks for your posts. While there are quite a few photography trade shows scheduled for the coming months, I guess the big one to look to for a fall announcement is Photokinia in mid-September.

I have a 20D that works amazingly well for me so that is why I am taking my time about choosing a new model. It may be worth waiting a few months for the Digic 5 processor and better autofocusing. I have even read on canonrumors.com that an "entry-level" FF is on the way.

Unlikely. It's a camera for a specific purpose and is a very limited edition. More than likely this fall will see either a 7D2 or a 70D. We probably still need to see the T4i launched here soon which is rumored to still keep the same 18 MP image sensor.

the 7D is over a year older and due for an update!
Why does the 7D need an update? Unless Nikon is ready to update the D300s I see little reason for Canon to update the 7D. It's a very popular camera and the performance is still something special.

Three years is enough wait for 7DII! 30Mp for 7DII and 70D would be minimum expected. What do I care when D300s is updated?

Who is this "we" you are referring to? :)

Have you considered the additional cost of upgrading your computer, not to store such large files, but to process them at a reasonable speed? What are you doing that needs that kind of resolution? There are a lot of other things I'd rather see before more megapixels and I'll bet I'd be right if I said "we" would like to see for example better image quality at higher ISOs.

Regards,
Peter

Speak for yourself. I'm in no hurry for 30mp images. I would like to see improved dynamic range and even less noise at high ISO. Built-in wi-fi would be awesome. Ok, I know that won't happen but it would be far more useful to me than gps.

Do not slap in a Digic5 to boost Jpeg noise reduction output please.

I hope the 70d won't increase in MP as this won't increase IQ and usability, but will have some really new features.

This refers to a possible touchscreen SLR which can be the EOS 70 and/or 650.

Built-in wifi can also be welcome as long as it does not require the proprietary Eye-fi protocol only.

I wish people would stop acting like increasing MP wouldn't help. It does help.
I'm all ready for a 30mp camera bring it on!

Increased MP has its downsides. Like I joked already, large files require a large buffer. I wouldn't want to see an increase in MP for the 7DmkII. Maybe for a 70D when it's considered a landscape/portrait camera, but for wildlife and birds you wouldn't want to push the MP too much.

I really don't think we will see a replacement to the 60D any time soon...the 7D is over a year older and due for an update!

Tsunami and financial crises probably delayed and messed up Canons original plans a lot, but historically the xxD series are updated once every 1-1½ year. There's no history to look at for 7D replacements, but if it is like other semi and pro cameras from Canon we are looking at replacements approx. every third year. If this is a competition, I will put my money on we see a 70D before we see a 7DII...

It's $400 for an i5-2500k, a motherboard, and 16gb of memory. Since the mkII's 21mp resolution came out, consumer cpus have increased well over 4x in capability, while resolutions have barely budged.

The challenge in getting precise focus seems to be the big issue with the D800, not the trivial issues around the storage and processing of the files.

I guess you have not kept up on technology. The 1DX can do 12fps with 18Mp. At that rate, 7fps would be easy at 30Mp. Not sure about buffer in 1DX, but it probably keeps up with 12fps for a few seconds.

I might consider a more moderate increase to 24Mp if it brings 1DX focusing speed and accuracy.
