30mm macro on test

Hi Adam, I wonder if the Sigma 28/2.8 will be the lens we´re looking for
if its anything like the 24mm prime built into the DP2 then it'll be an absolute Scorcher - if its like the 30mm SLR APS prime then will be great in the middle and poor at the edges .. as the DP2 is closer to the registration distance of the NEX than SLRs are (and Sigma seem better at making lenses like this) then I'm hoping for the best : )
. But since it is rated EX, I´m not expecting it to be reasonably priced, sub 350ish. I hope, I´m wrong.
it's Rated "Mirrorless" - it'll be out for M43 also and there's no way EPL1 / GF3 owners will pay a premium !
The E-Mount 30 macro really is a lens hard to like:
Even when announced before hearing about the softness I thought it was pretty pointless - a bit too long and slow for walkabout , way way too short for a Macro - I found 90/100mm macros perfect for APS-C (for subject distance & lighting as well as great medium telephotos as these things generally make superb fast primes too)..

I can use my Tamron 90 macro via the EOS adapter and if I need to stop it down (only for DOF) I can do the aperture trick with a tatty film camera first

Dear mister everdog
Why are you here on this forum?
Why are you responding to this post?
You don't own a Nex camera
You don't like the Nex camera
You don't own the mentioned lens

You don't read the total review of this lens (or you only tell about the not so good parts of the review, the good parts you let confinient out)

You are not helping anybody here with your silly remarks. So please go to the forum where your hart is and leave us alon.

He maybe an Anti- NEX Troll but every word he said is right though and the optical observance is backed up by Pam's report after owning one for a while ..

Yep, it's pretty much a pointless lens - too short for a Macro, too soft and slow as a normal prime and hardly giveaway price (not as cheap as a canon, sony or Nikon regular 50 F1.8 even by a long mark) - wait for the NEX 50mm with its excellent optics and OSS or the new Sigma pair - sounds about right to me ..

It is up to the owner of a camera to tell if a lens is pointless or not. So someone who OWNS and USE the camera can tell if the lens is pointless for him or her, not someone who owns a different camera. As for him EVERY lens that is for an other camera is pointless (unles he is able to adapt the lens and wants to use it)

The main reason for my post was that Everdog ALWAYS uses those parts of the review teling how bad the Nex camera or lenses are and he forgets to tell the whole story.

About the softness, this review tells something different. The lens is NOT soft but:
The 30mm ƒ 3.5 Macro offers good results for sharpness
and (in the conclusion):

With good results for sharpness, corner shading and distortion, the only hesitation might be higher-than-desired results for chromatic aberration, but even that is treatable with post-processing.

So NOT a soft lens, but only not tack sharp But what do you expect from a $250 lens.

I think telling that this lens is soft is strange when the review tells it offers good results for sharpness
