Unfortunately I don't just shoot flowers, trees or kids all the time like the majority of X10 owners here on the FTF.
Paul.
and excessively amorous cows are called Hefners. If you think about it for a second that is a really dumb name, surely they should be called sheifers? Will, Bill & Del....in my neck of the woods, female bovine are known as...heifers.
Wrong. There is a precedent for this. Fuji issued a statement that they would modify the X100's firmware after DPR tore them a new one in their review. They had a whole page of complaints about the excessively crappy firmware. A new low in Fujifilm programming for sure. So? that means the camera is usable after all and simply dispels your opinion that it should be binned outright. Who's more irrational? But with threads like this....it's going to look like there is a very happy lot of photographers who do not consider ORBS an issue when the type of shooting/lighting/conditions that they use do not project the issue.
That statement seems to be due to a lack of connection to reality and a good dose of irrational fear.Threads like this.....they may encourage Fuji to do nothing.
Fuji are doing something, they issued an unprecedented statement of intent to do so.
and if it is the hardware that is the problem? What then? What if the sensor was designed so poorly that it overloads far more often than other sensors? And Fuji will continue to develop cameras that are closest to what enthusiasts actually want, this orb problem is nothing but an unfortunate bump in that road.
I shoot everything in RAW. I'm not finding that in RAW I'm getting any better highlight control here than on my G12. Or GF2. I am finding more in the jpegs though.I'd rather a white disc producing camera than lose any of the amazing 2 to 2.7 EV of highlight recovery/protection in RAW.
That'll never happen. Not unless Fuji doesn't mind being ridiculed as the manufacturer of lameo cameras, and if they do, they might as well get LensBaby to produce a lens for their new MILC camera as well. Think of the orbs that camera/lens could produce if its new sensor shares any non-photosite tech. with the X10's sensor.I was thinking the same thing yesterday. I dont know a whole lot about Lomo but it seems that things like light bleed, plastic lenses, and other fidelity destroying issues are actually somewhat desired. If it is true, as predicted, that the X10/XS-1's problems are pretty much baked into the camera, because of a faulty sensor, then Fujifilm's salvation for this whole mess might be to market these cameras as digital Lomography cameras. Could be a whole new market for them. They could capitalize on people who don't put a huge priority on IQ.
No, he is saying the converse; that if you are not a "proper" photographer, then the orbs won't bother you. This sort of ignorant comment is what starts so many unnecessary flame wars around here.Summit_pg wrote:
If you're the shoot and upload to facebook type the orbs won't be an issue.
What you are effectively saying is that no one can be a 'proper' photographer and own an X10.

The lens problem was raised by DP Review and DC Resource in quite emphatic terms, so your example does not say anything specific about this forum. It shows that sometimes Fuji just ignores complaints (though the rapid arrival of the F600 has been interpreted by some as a response to the F550 criticism).I've been around long enough to know that many/maybe most/maybe all manufacturers do not pay much attention at all to dpreview forums and the issues raised therein.Threads like this.....they may encourage Fuji to do nothing.
Did Fuji fix the F550 lens problem because of the fuss raised in here?
I think those aren't orbs - the Russians have censored the photos by punching large round holes out of them.Interestingly, this Russian site gave the X-S1 a ggod review, but they didn't seem to notice the orbs. (translation is iffy though..)
One of their test pics has to hold the record for "Most Outrageous Orbs".
I can't see how any ammount of in camera trickery would be able to remedy that.
I would take an HS30 any day over something that presents me with needlessly and unfixably trashed photos.I have an X-S1 on order, and am checking here every day hoping to see that a firmware update does the trick .. but somehow I'm doubting it.
I may end up with an HS-30 instead !!
