I read on this forum that there was an upgrade for the EF flash that would allow it to work with the SD15. I sent my flash to the Sigma service center for an upgrade and they called me and said my flash works fine and that there is no upgrade. I got the flash back and of course it still won't sync with the SD15.

SO...are they just amazingly incompetent or am I missing something?

The former, methinks. I would never assume that some schmuck who works for anybody's service centre would have any idea of what's going on. People need this kind of info spelled out for them.

I'd send it back with specific details of what you need them to do - and demand they pay the postage.

... if I may add to what our friend Vitee has posted, I'd tell them exactly what it won't do and/or what you are trying to achieve. In other words, it won't sync with the camera and that is what you want it to do.

I contacted the service manager and he said there are no upgrades for my flash. They only have flash upgrades for Sigma flash units to repair issues with Canon and Nikon.

I called a different service center and they said there are compatibility issues with the SD15 and it's because I did the latest firmware upgrade.
They said you can't trust what you read on internet forums.

So...I guess I am stuck using the flash in the manual mode unless someone can instruct me as what to do or who to call.

I had the same problem and just gave up and bought a new 610. My 500 super is now part of my strobist kit.

I do not know where you are from but I can tell you that there is a Firmware upgrade for the EF-500 DG Super STTL and it can only be done in a Sigma Service Centre.

If your local centre says there isn't they are wrong and I am sure an email to Sigma Japan will confirm.

It works reasonably well with Firmware Ver 1.01 in the camera but is perfect with Ver 1.02.

Hello guzzibreva,

SIGMA Germany made an firmware update to my 2 EF 500 DG Super.
Both units now work perfect with SD14 and SD15.

Did cost me only postage.

Best regards

Bernd

This is exactly why I just keep using my Vivitar 285HV and the fact that I've decided I have enough invested in this company. This upgrade BS sounds like the "right hand doesn't know what the left is doing" type of thing. People here always say/defend that this or that type of problem also happens at Canon, Nikon, Oly, etc., but this sounds like only something that could happen with a Sigma product. I've never experienced anything close to this with my Nikon, Canon or even my Hassy equipment. It's also another reason Sigma just ain't no "PRO" camera! I'm sorry, but that goes for the SD1 also. Gotta love the image quality of the cameras, especially the SD1, but that's about all I love. JohnW
