I think ML cameras will be the future, so Olympus, Panasonic, Sony, Samsung and Nikon are in, why there is no any news about Canon ML utill now?????

Canon did hint that they are working on something along those lines, but didn't provide any details. They don't usually make official announcements until products are just about ready to be released.

I'm guessing evf, as they are a big video camera producer, like Panasonic. And maybe aps size sensor to take their existing lenses, plus new, smaller lenses.

Because there's no news yet to share about their intentions on the matter? What's your guess?

why is there no news or why is there no camera? there's no news because canon doesn't leak info about its projects as readily as other manufacturers do. there's no camera yet probably because canon has been waiting to see how well other mirrorless systems do in the market. at least that's what common sense tells me.

I think they will use their large sensor in a smaller body (no mirror) with their lens mounts to make the existing lenses usable,,,,,

Mirrorless body will still require an adapter to use the lenses designed for reflex cameras. The whole idea of mirrorless is smaller, easy to carry outfits. I see no value in a smaller bodies supporting oversized lenses. A new lens line would have to come with the body. Just making current EF lenses compatible is not the answer.

We might see a larger sensor compact before a mirrorless with interchangeable lenses. This could explain why the G12 was not replaced this fall along side the S100. Personally I think this is a good decision for those upgrading from P&S. If canon can do a 1" sensor with fast folding optics that performs quickly then this could be a good enough solution for most upgraders. I still think most P&S upgraders would avoid interchangeable lenses if they had a viable option.

Yes, I like small lenses for small cameras, even though Sony NEX seems to go against this a bit. But an adaptor would allow 40 some Canon EF and EF-S lenses to be used right away, while Canon added new lenses. As long as they make the old and new fully compatible, with AF and auto aperture. Some of the Canon EF-S lenses are not much bigger then Panasonic m4/3, like the Canon 55-250 vv. Pan 45-200.

If Canon were bold they'd join m43, build modular cameras with an app store and wireless/iLife/PC integration, and build up the dominant mirrorless format with a full line of lenses. Oly would probably be relegated and Panny would be forced to innovate. But there are no Steve Jobs in the camera world.

Why don't you ask on the Canon forum? I'm not interested in what Canon does and this is a m4/3 forum.

I will have to say, if they made a backwards compatible mirrorless camera (the same way as m4/3 mounts 4/3 lenses) I would be very tempted to sell off my m4/3 gear and jump to that - while it does lose a lot of the point adapting a large lens to a small camera, the ability to use 20+ years worth of legacy lenses (hello autofocus and aperture control...) and my current glass would make a Canon mirrorless my ideal backup for my existing Canon SLR gear (compared to now where I have a small m4/3 setup as a backup).

As to what is actually in the works, who knows... Nikon have obviously gone down the route of a small sensor interchangeable lens, Sony sticking to aps-c in a more compact body, and what Canon could be planning is anyones guess - I like to think when they go for a new system, they go into it in a big way, so we could be in for something interesting, and until they announce it, only a select group of engineers will ever know...

My ideal would be a comparable system to m4/3 - 1.6 crop sensor, small short flange distance primes made for the system and backwards compatibility with an adapter for EF and EF-s glass, and built as compact and portable as possible.

They were long coming with the EF-s lenses though despite the demand for them. I have used my EF lenses on my various m4/3 bodies and even with AF, etc. they would not be my choice on a small body, even my smaller fast primes. I might have to eat my hat down the road LOL but that's my feeling now.

Canon may very well do the "Classy" thing that no one else has done...

Everybody came out with their mirror-less camera, and had to hustle, and bustle, to get some lenses out there (other than the "kit" lenses).

Canon might release their Mirrorless with a full line of lenses. ready to go....

I dont know though.. Just thinking about it, when is the last time Canon did something "Classy"????

It wouldn't be practical to release a new camera with a full line of new lenses at the same time. Lenses are are not in continuous production, but are made in batches. To have many new lenses available would mean holding up the release of the system until several production runs are completed, delaying the release many months.
