. . . At the end of DPR's recent overview article on mirrorless cameras was this little bombshell :

"To further help your decision, we'll be publishing a buyer's guide to the best Mirrorless models in the coming weeks."

. . . That's right. DPR is going to tell the noobs which mirrorless camera is the best one for them when making a buying decision. Just imagine, every brand, body style and model of mirrorless camera is going to come up short in this article except for the winner(s). I see mega-flames consuming this forum along with the NEX and Nikon 1 forums after this upcoming article and I don't whether to stock-up on B12 capsules and Red Bull or just take a break until everything calms down again. Probably the former. :)

What they're going to do is to qualify their statements and address them to various market segments. They'll say things like "if you value DOF control, choose a Sony because it uses the largest sensors", and "if you value a good selection of lenses, choose M43 because it has the most of them", etc.

That's a perfectly crumulent approach, because in reality people actually do have different needs and there really isn't one "best" camera or camera system.

With a bit of luck DPReview will come out with "the Nikon 1 is best" and that will cause a stampede over to there as disappointed users sell off their gear and buy up Nikon.

The end result will be nice and quiet and peaceful here at home with my E-PL1, and I like life to be that way.

Regards....... Guy

funny how this comes only after somebody got a gold award and camera not on the market yet, considering other cameras waited a year to be reviewed,...... and guess who will get the podium....

It probably could influence some..but I remember when I bought my first APSC-DSLR, I'd read so many reviews, and buyers guides that my eyes hurt...even though there were only two choices. (Canon and Nikon)...it was really the reason I hung around DPR, since back then 1500-1700 dollars was a lot of money for a camera. I must have lurked around on the Nikon and Canon forums here for weeks, trying to find out the reality (and of course didn't) of which camera was the best. I took the forums much more seriously than any review or buying guide. I don't know how many 'front focusing' or 'back focusing' threads I read between the 10d and D70 but I got so confused I almost flipped a coin.

I think though that "buyers guides" are somewhat of a waste of time now, since everyone's uses and needs vary so much. There is so much to weigh (too much for a buyers guide to be objectively successful)..but then again look how many people go by "Consumer Reports"?

Unlikely, but you can hope..

Also interesting that six of the last seven in-depth reviews have been Sony cams. Coincidence or telling ???
