Up until I bought the 17-35 I used to bring my F80 with me and a dozen rolls of film as well "in case" but I haven't ever used it once since I got the D100. With the 17-35 there was no room for it anymore in the bag.

I pine for the day I can afford to add a 80-200, a 60mm micro and a really big zoom i.e. 80-400VR or sigma 50-500. But my bag is completely full at the moment :-)

My next lens would be probably the 135/2 DC and 70-200/2.8 VR.

Curiosity.

Over the years, I noticed that Nikon users use a lot of equipment (heavy) and I wanted to validate my thoughts on it. Also, it is refreshing to see things that are home made by the photographers. Sometimes, it gives ideas to add a very useful piece of equipment or a trick you can't really buy.
my list is d1x, 24-85d, 80-400vr, sb-80dx, lowepro
mintrekker...thats bout it more or less...usually care it all

Since I'm new here, this seemed like a good thread to jump in on.
Hi, to all, Hope I can be a good, regular contributor!

Depends on the shoot whether or not I carry everything.
Most of the time it is one or two bodies and a couple lenses.
But for a serious trip...here's my camera bag:

Sundog Art Wolfe Backpack
Nikon F100
Nikon D100
17-35 F2.8 AFS

SB80

And all the little gadgets like microfibre cloths, cable releases, mini-Bogen Tripod, etc.

My one must have on all outdoor shoots: Warming Polarizer.

Next item(s) to add? Probably 80-400VR, 300mm F2.8.

And I am not surprised at all. Size and VR makes for a great choice. Quality as well.
Do you take everything or just some of your equipment when you go
take pictures ?

What kind of bag do you use?
What are the essentials in it ?
What secret weapon or homade "guizmo" do you carry ?

Let's see what everbody brings on photoshoot ?

Finally: What is your next piece of equipment to eventually come
in that bag ?

I'll start since I'm opening the thread.

Nikon D-100 with
AF 18-35 ED Nikkor
Sigma AF 15-30 D
AF 80-400 ED VR Nikkor
AF 35-70 Nikkor
AF 60 Micro ED Nikkor
Kenko Tube ext + Tamron 2X converter
SB29s and SB 22 flashes + Vivitar 283 and assorted flash filters...
I also carry 20 different Cokin Filters (P and A series)
3 CF Cards (256)
Lens Pen (2)
Photographer's gloves (Lowe pro)
I have a Lowe Pro Orion Bad which is getting too small.

take pictures ?
I just take some, depending on what I think I'll need. (I assume you don't want a catalog of what I have.) Too much equipment out in the field, for me, just gets in the way. I find that although I may miss a shot because I did not bring something, I invariably come home with more good stuff when I'm not fussing through a bunch of gear that I'm tired of carrying.

I can't imagine having only one camera bag. My most-used one is the Nikon one, despite my not liking to advertise what's inside it. Sometimes I cover the logo with tape.
I always have:
Camera(s)
Lens(es)
Flash(es)
CF Cards
Extra Batteries
Lens Pen
Sharpie (dual point)
Ball Point Pen
Lens Cleaning Cloth
White Handkerchief for white balancing
Garbage Bag for rain protection
Business Cards

The details vary a lot from day to day, and almost always include either a tripod or monopod, sometimes a stroboframe, filters, extension tubes, remote shutter cord, reflectors, etc.

Greg,

I think that with that list, there is going to be a need for a back-up librarian. I am volunteering for THAT job!

JW
i'm out of breath from that amazing list!
congrats to you!
now we all know where we can go when we have to borrow something.
you should start a "library card" system for loaning out that stuff
we'll take good care of it... i promise you

Have camera, will travel :-)

Hi,

It depends on what I'm off to shoot as to what goes.

Bags (I have no idea what the P/N's of the bags are):

Tamrac regular 35mm size bag

D1X (used to be D1H until last week)
Nikkor AF 28-105 f3.5-45.D
SB28dx
spare D1X battery
spare 1 GB microdrive

Tamrac Medium Format bag #1

Space for D1X (used to be DCS 660 until two weeks ago, may be DCS 720x next week if I spring for one of those deals Kodak is offering)
Space for SB28dx
Nikkor AF 50mm f1.4D
Nikkor AFS 28-70mm f2.8D
Nikkor AFS 80-200mm f2.8D
Nikkor TC14e
Filters
Cleaning supplies
3 spare D1X batteries
3 spare sets of NiCd AA cells for SB28dx
3 spare 1 GB microdrives

Tamrac Medium Format bag #2

Nikon FA w/MD15 (35mm film camera)
Nikkor AFS 300mm f4D
Nikkor AF 85mm f1.4D
Nikkor MF 58mm f1.2 NOCT
Nikkor TC20e
More Filters
More cleaning supplies
Space for extra batteries (moved from little bag)
Film (what's that stuff?)

Laptop case #1

IBM T22 (1 GHz P3) w/40GB hard disk
CDRW drive
spare 40 GB hard disk
spare 1 GB microdrive

Laptop case #2

Dell 3700 (450 MHz P3) w/20 GB hard disk
CDRW drive
spare 20 GB hard disk
spare 1 GB microdrive (from laptop case #1 if I'm not carrying both laptops)

Lens trunk case

Nikkor MF 800mm f8 IF-ED

What do I take? I really depends on just what I'm up to. Sometimes all of it. Sometimes just the little bag. Sometimes MF bag #1 with a DSLR in it. Usually just one of the laptops (T22), unless I think I need a spare or a secondary processor.

Here's some scenieros:

Day trips: Just the little 35mm bag

Bowling Tournaments: MF Bag #1 and both laptops.

Motorsports weekends: Both MF bags and one laptop.

Hi,

Oh, yeah, there's more bags I forgot as I don't usually carry them, plus a few 'pods.

MF bag #3

Nikon E2 (don't ask)
Nikkor AF 28-80mm not-D f something-or-other zoom
Nikkor AF 75-240mm non-D (I think) f something-or-other zoom
Nikkor MF 50mm f1.8 AI beat-to-hell lens from my first FE
Nikon SB28 (not dx, and the only good piece in the kit)
Two batteries for the E2 that sort-of-hold-a-charge
Power supply/charger for the E2
(This is the bag full of old $hit that I'd just as soon forget that I owned.)

35mm bag #2

This one has the Nikon and Kodak battery chargers and AC studio power supplies. Tends to live in the closet waiting for a racing weekend, which is the only time it gets out. I have a second set of power supplies and chargers both at home and at the screenprinting shop studio, so this is the third set because I'm too lazy to pack up the house set to take racing.....

Tripods:

Bogen large monopod

Bogen tripod for the field

Another Bogen tripod with wheel dolly and geared head in the photo studio over at the screenprinting shop.

Sorry, I can't recall the part numbers of the 'pods offhand....
