D-Lux 4 - B&Ws from the South of France

Your B&W's are superb! I've been 'exploring' the world of B&W lately with my D-Lux 5. I use Lightroom w/Silver Efex Pro 2 as a plug in. I don't know what post processing program you're using but I can't see much room for improvement. Sorry to hear you're having a 'not so good' Monday.

Dear Carl,

Not surprised about your "Monday" as you call it "she" ! ... They ( elles ) always find something to make problems; but how could we live without them!... ;)

Your lanscapes are sectacular! My favorite ones are #5 and 6. But somehow, on my monitor, it seems they need more contrast! I like B/Ws with blacks and whites!... Or maybe; my eyes are getting old!...

My very best to all family,

impressive pictures from the d-lux 4
i'll have to work harder with my m9

These are really outstanding images you've posted. The two with the children especially so. I also love the way you mange your post processing. Reminds me a little of our good friend in here Louis.

I saw his comments about the contrast but do not see it as the pictures look pretty contrasty to me on my screen. I too prefer to see the full range of black and white in my monochrome images. And I thought you succeeded in that.

Do you mind sharing what you actually did in post work with these images? I would love to know. I am trying all different takes with black and whites but not getting a consistent result I am thrilled with. So experiment further I shall.

Thank you and may your Mondays only improve going forward!

David

Mike, number 6 and the last one are my favorites. The reflections on the surface of the camper are awesome. Also, the shoes placed in a tidy row outside the camper is an added plus. Btw, Monday is definitely my least favorite day and I try not to do anything important on that day if I can help it. :)

My Best,
Emil

Top shots Carl. My favourite above. As much as I love the Airstream, I don't think I'd want to polish it every day, or even every week :(
Hope you enjoyed, but i would really appreciate any specific feedback you can offer to help me improve,
:-D
I did enjoy and the only thing I would comment on is the first shot of the doorway. It looks like it's shot at a very slight angle and has bits cut off. To my eye anyway, it's so close to straight on that that's what it should be. Absolutely straight and as symetrical as you can make it. Either that or a more obvious angle.

Looking forward to some more B/Ws

All the best
Mike

these are very nice b/w scenic shots. I particularly like #5,6 &8, especially 8 for its surreal touch.

The contrast appears ok on my monitor, so perhaps our dearest Louis is getting a pair of ageing eyes....:-))

Sorry, Louis.

Best,

Choi

I mean number 6 for its surreal touch. So Louis, don't feel sorry for your ageing eyes, I have an ageing brain....:-((

Besides my aging eyes; I guess it is only a question of taste!
I always prefer a little more contrast and "harder" B/W!
This is what I meant:

And the way I see it:

The same here; Original:

And here is the original of my favorite of the set:

And the way I would prefer:

As I said above, this is only a matter of personal taste! The difference is very subtle!
Sorry Carl; I had to explain myself! Your set is truly superb, anyways! ;)

Best Regards to all those failing eyes,

They're all very good. I especially like the Airstream trailer. I love the reflections.

Carl-you've been kind to answer questions about your colour work in the past-I'm wondering if you'd share your B&W workflow in the most general sense.

My usual comment applies-my technical question has little to do with the overall impact of your photo's.

And while this may not be the most appropriate place to do so, maybe l_objectif could briefly describe his own B&W workflow.

Then it will be back to the great photo's here by Carl.

Thanks again.

Love the composition but I (too) would love just a touch more contrast or brightness to make them less dark.

Nice set. Beautiful.

Hi Digital Don,

Many thanks for your kind words. I use sfx2 as well, but with aperture - I love it and find it addictive! :-D

Well at least Monday is over now! I have a cold and felt pretty lousy, but i'm hoping i will pick up as the week goes on. :-D thanks again,
all the best,
Carl

Hi Louis, please don't take too much notice of my moaning, it is just as i have a cold, I was feeling a bit cr@p yesterday... :-D

thanks for your kind comments and i know what you mean about the contrast, I always wander how far to push it and maybe i should be going a little higher. I certainly love your PP!
many thanks again and I hope all your family are well too.
best regards,
your friend Carl

A bientôt Cher Carl .

Hugues.
Many thanks for your "much too generous" feedback Hugues. I was not expecting this set to be as popular as they seem to be. But i am very self critical. you picked out two of my favourites as well.
:-D

Many, many thanks Emil, I noticed those shoes as well and their neatness appealed to me. :-D

That sounds like great advice to avoid things going wrong on Mondays. Please consider it adopted! :-D
all the best and thanks again,
Carl
