i have a d60. i want to sell it and get a 1d. since we don't have the cash for it i will have to use the d60 cash plus a credit card for the rest. i need a good plan! how can i get my wife to say yes?

thanks :)

Here is the best way to do it. What ever the price difference is between the two spend that same amount on jewlery for her. This logic makes all of my expenditures twice the market rate but keeps everybody happy.

My advice: Don't do it. Consider the following:

1) You are caught in an endless techno lust cycle... a trap that has ensnared many and provides little satisfaction. The D60 is perfectly adequate for any non-professional.

2) Since you don't have the cash, you obviously can't afford the $2000 upgrade. Think sensibly man, credit cards are vampiric. Save your money for something much more practical and realistic than a camera.

3) Buyer's remorse will soon dampen your enthusiasm for the 1D when a better and cheaper camera is available (say about 3-4 months).

4) Your wife deserves better.

Why do I feel so passionately? I am trying to persuade myself.

1. Promise to pay off the difference in a very short amount of time she sees fit.

2. Outline her the strengths of the 1D and the weaknesses of the D60.

3. Tell her the 1D will get you better soccer photos of your kids or future kids.

4. Promise to buy her material goods valued similarly to the difference you're charging on the card.

Man, if I ever get married that significant other of mine better be into photography! lol. :)

Wait until you have the cash. Take the amount that your credit card
payment would be and put it in a 1D account (real or virtual) and when
you have about $2500, sell the D60 and get the 1D.

I've heard divorce is expensive. Don't know anything about that personally, though... I don't have a wife, but my girlfriend was shocked I spent $450 on a lens ( 100/2.8 Macro ). It's not the same as having to ask for permission ... but I think a good "partner" will always be concerned about your future/well-being ... and money is just one way she's trying to look out for you.

By the way, how come there's never a "How do I convince my husband I need a 300/4 tele?" thread...?

Hey, I'm a 'wife'--and a photographer. Money isn't the issue of whether or not to have a 'spouse' IMO LOL. That partnership is worth more than anythng either of us own--and I don't advocate 'bribing'--that's sort of demeaning--also IMO.

However---I advocate saving for it--or finding a way to make your photography (and thus your camera) work for you and pay for any upgrades. Don't use credit--'too many slips between the cup and the lip', so to speak--which can do you in if you have a financial crisis. EAch of my cameras has paid for the next (and all the lenses and accessories). If you feel your photography talents warrant a 1D, then you must have enough knowhow to use them for a bit of income from them smile . Then--your wife/partner should be thrilled that you are going to buy a 1D--you can do even better with your parttime photography work--and for your personal work too. My husband is thrilled with my own images--and pleased that I've found a way to fund my tools.

Samys camera WAS selling refurbished 1-ds for $2499. You could sell your d-60 and only be a few hundred short. Start saving, watch for another refurbish sale and you will still have peace at home.

you aswered your own question by saying you dont have the cash for it.
why buy something if you can't afford it?

maybe the wife is right....hmmmm.....

Hey there,

My boyfriend, a Canon enthusiast like myself, proposed to me about two weeks ago now. When he popped the question, he presented me not only with a gorgeous ring, but also a Canon GL2 digital video camera -- I've been longing to make skiing videos and movies starring our Australian Shepherd puppy. To quote Ben, "Rings are boring -- at least you can play with a video camera!" Ah, boys. Needless to say, I accepted :)

Some girls appreciate camera gear!

But...since we already have a D-60 and (now) a GL2, I'm also leery of plunking down the cash for a 1-DS -- that's a lot of money!

Cheers, y'all, and good luck with your wheeling and dealing!
