Im fedup with all these cams with many magapixels (12,14) but the pics arent quality enough. After reading all the valuable posts here by you all i understood that it is the Sensor that dors the magic. So im in search for a handy point & shoot camera with the best sized sensor.. im not so concerned abt the megapixel level (8+ is enough) also must have a good ISO range, zoom to be 5X & above, not so expensive.

Im kindof an amateur for photography but i have a good eye :) Please suggest me some models... thanx

What does "not so expensive" mean in terms of actual budget? Your best bet with the constraints you've listed would be a NEX with the bundle zoom lense, as it's not so expensive (for me) yet gives you all you asked for.

New for less than $200 with aps-c sensor or larger?
Not yet, probably in 10 years time.

I'm afraid you're going to have to either re-calibrate your expectations or increase your budget.

$200. will get you a "serviceable" point and shoot, nothing more. It WILL be a small sensor camera, with few features on it. To get into any sort of qaulity point and shoot at all, you'll need to double your budget

The only one I see near this is the Samsung TL350, though it's a small sensor and the OP will have to come up in the budget.

Then comes the prosumers, but dare I say, he/she would have to spend more AND process RAW.

The NX100 has an APS-c. Can be had under 300 euros out here with flash and lens.

Even a used APS-c sensored P&S such as the Sony R-1 will still set you back $500., in all probability the best P&S ever made and one that fits your criteria except for price.

For $200 get the Canon Elph 100HS or Sony Wx9. Both have small sensors, but they are advanced backlit CMOS sensors. You are going to get average photo quality i good light, but above average in poor light.

For "the best point and shoot with the largest sensor", double your budget and look at the Panasonic LX5, Canon S95, Olympus XZ-1 and Samsung EX1 cameras.

The Panasonic FH20 is fairly close to what you are looking for under $200. You do not need the LARGEST sensor to get good quality pics. At night, and in low light situations, it makes a big difference, but you have to up your budget and raise the ante for that.

If you want more low light capabilities in the under $200 range go with the Canon Elph 100HS with less zoom. Or take a look at the Sony HX5V with more zoom, and fair low light capabilities on the twilight mode.

Remember, at under $200 the above models are good value for the price. You are NOT going to find the largest, best quality sensors in this price range. So, the best you can do, is take a look at acceptable models, read reviews on each, then make a decision on what you are willing to compromise on, and decide which features are most important to you.

well yeah.. i knw its bit funny to have my expectations for $200, it was just a hypothetical limit i set cos i dint have a god idea abt the prices, well now i c where they stand. so im okay to go upto $300-$400 range, but i do not want those bulky cams. only point & shoots. so something with a reasonable sensor size will fit me. I just want the image quality to be the best, so there might be some other factors that i need to consider other than the sensor.. so considering all these, pls recommend me a good device. thanx

You probably are looking for large sensor compact camera.
Fujifilms FinePix X100 seems to be good option to look at.
Its got APS-C sensor in a compact body.

The Samsung TL500/EX1 is coming down in price, so it becomes much more attractive in it's league. It offers quite a bit for the price & hopefully will satisfy my desire for a replacement for my Contax G1 kit (35mm film). I will eventually move to a camera that has a good OVF & larger sensor, but the money is not available for what is available right now. A Fuji X100 with short zoom or interchangeable lenses would be a dream come true.

Cheers,
