Free Lightroom with G3 - It's happening!

there's a big difference in the price of LR3 and PE9. I can hardly believe that the full current version of LR3 would be offered with a consumer level camera but I would be delighted to be proved wrong.
The offer reflects the customer segment of the potential G3 buyers. I think the marketing department thinks that the buyers of G3 are upgraders from P/S and that they would not have bought LR soon anyway (or own it already). On the other hand they probably believe that as a consequence of the deal, the consumers will get used to LR and select it as their raw conversion tool. This means that the users will probably upgrade LR to a newer version at some point. This reflects the idea that the customers buying G3 would develop as photographers, and would start doing raw conversion during the process.

I'm quite sure that upgrade discounts won't apply for this deal. In addition, I believe that in long term the deal is beneficial for the customers, for Panasonic, for Adobe, and for the camera retailers. As a conclusion, everybody wins! :)

Even if you don't plan to keep the camera for that long, a 5 yr. warranty would be a good thing, and a selling point if it is transferrable to a second owner. Of course, not all warranties are transferrable so I guess it depends.

But----there is no such offer in the US. No packages at all. One would think the US market would be a good place to make the same offer. Maybe they think their Facebook deal was sufficient but I doubt many were aware of it.
Theres hasn't been any offers in Scandinavia (my place) during the MFT existence, either, except the 50€ cashback 6 month ago. The UK + Ireland marketing office seems to be extremely active.

I believe that the market data in such a dynamic markets is quite non-existent, and therefore every special offer should be considered as a market study.

Compared to EU, in US cameras are so cheap that I doubt that there's room for any kind of special offers.

Yes he did. I expect I have a copy of one of the versions on my bookshelf somewhere. I, too, like his approach. You might like this too. He and Jeff Schewe I think started this site back when LR started and there are other posters there too but I think there are archives for old and interesting new stuff.

Diane, this is great. You're a fount of information! Thanks again.

That could be true. I'm not really unhappy since m4/3 is generally a lot of camera for the money and I come from years of Canon. I'm glad some will have the chance to try Lightroom that otherwise may not have.

Now, if they will just start shipping in the US LOL.

ok -if Adobe do not allow the upgrade to v4 at the normal price (around 40% of full retail if I remember correctly when I upgraded from 2 to 3) then it could make business sense for them. But I thought the suggestion is that this will be a full retail version. Anyway, we'll soon see.

Why not? I'm currently planing on upgrading my Nikon D70 + lens to a more compact mirrorless system...
