I predict panic in the streets, all around the globe. Clouds of locusts will darken the skies, and there will much rending of garments and gnashing of teeth. Life as we know it will cease, forever.

...and then we'll all go out and buy the latest 15G Apple iPhone, with its full-frame Foveon 46meg sensor, 17-800mm OS built-in lens, bundled with a full PhotoShop suite, and a new Corvette. All for $300.

Afterwards, we'll all assemble here and whine about the price.

Based on the early samples, I don't think the reviews will be that good.

June is a busy month for camera introductions including rumored significant announcements from Sony, Olympus, and Leica. I'm predicting the new Sony A77 will suck the air out of the Sigma bubble.

Sigma had their chance at making a splash with their existing base. They really screwed it up. I have a feeling DaSigmaGuy may become DaSonyGuy... lol. Seriously, I doubt Sigma will be in the camera business much longer.

What's that smell? Ah, the smell of decaying predictions. The same one that's been sitting around for five or six years now...

Sigma will keep making cameras as long as they want to. Despite a misstep here, it doesn't mean that they will stop making cameras, or that the next generation of DP-1/DP-2 cameras are not being worked on...

You presume Sigma will actually ship a product in that time frame.

My guess is that you'll see the SD1 shipped in June at the same time you're watching an exhibition of porcine aeronautics.**

I would require a deposit before ordering one in and if someone does try to order one, I'd steer that person towards a more reasonably priced Canon/Nikon pro body because they have pro lenses to support their pro bodies.

I agree. This fiasco has Epic Fail written all over it. Sigma will be closing down their SLR plant, if it is even running anymore.

My prediction is that all the reviews will say this:

"It's a great camera! Takes very sharp images. Shame the selection of lenses isn't there to support such an expensive camera. Avoid."

1:- if the Price is back to 7D levels, it'll sell and this forum will be a hotbed of discussion .

2:- if the Price is still in Trip-out-city then tumbleweeds will be blowing through they various localized Sigma depots as no dealers would stock at that price unless on SOR

3:- if No2, then the big chatter will be about SPP5 and how it differs, improves and is worse than previous versions and where to get Pink wire for the numerous re-instated SD14s (put away for SD1 day) & what colour wire does the DP1S need to cure the green edges.

4:- Likelyhood is it won't hit the shelves then and no one will care a hoot unless Pricing of 1:- has happened - if 1:- Pricing has happened, the re-gnashing of teeth over "when" will go on.

A Problem is only the pessimistic way of looking at a challenge
