S85 - Best Buy Price UNDrop - Won't Shop There

I just went to sears using the advise posted earlier and got a camera today for 399 + tax. Best buy won't do it at my store so I took ad to sears, made sure they had stock then showed them ad and they honored it. best of luck
I hope they also gave you 10% of the difference which is $20 if they still had it listed at $599. If not go back, it's in their price match policy.

Fatwallet and Anandtech above are 2 of the best. Dont forget Techbargains.com, Bensbargains.net also.
They also are trying to censor posts on bargain sites that list the
items they will offer for the after Thanksgiving sale (Black Friday).
I heard this story today on CNN. Can you point me to some of these
sites?
Thanks.

Thanks for all the suggestions. The problem is solved. One of the reputable chain stores matched the price. All's well that ends well.
Best Buy has advertised the camera at $399 - "$100 Price Drop". I
was going to buy two - for office and home.
They have changed their mind and now claim they have made an error.
They refuse to honor the advertised price even though there is no
disclaimer on the brochure regarding printing errors. Another
store claims they're out of stock - since they do not give
rainchecks that's another way not to honor the advertised price.
I guess one of the reputable web sites is going to get my business.

Really? I went to my local Best Buy literally the day I saw that and picked one up with no problems whatsoever. I must got lucky, they actually had 19 in stock at the time I went.

I think it was probably an error on their ad. It could be worse: Recently Gateway had in-store ads where cameras from Fuji and Olympus were using "CompactFlash" cards...

They [BestBuy] either screwed up the price or the ad was for the S75. They just recently dropped the S85 from $599 to $499, so going down to $399 a week later did not seem logical to me... Sony cameras are selling at a premium, so seeing a Sony at a retail store at the price of an HP (812) or Toshiba (M81) 4MP camera does not make sense...

But never-the-less, since they posted the price nationally and got people to drive to their stores, they should honor it, or in the worse case, give accessories or gift cards or something like that to make up for it.
Either way, it's good you warned people about how dishonest Best
Buy is. You can also review them at http://www.resellerratings.com .

About 3 weeks back Fry's was selling F707 for $699 (instore price)
but did not have stock. Now they are selling it for $799 and have
stock!! My bet is that it will come down by $100 in Thanks giving
sale!!
I remember that ad in the paper. There were disclaimers stating that some of the cameras at the $699 price were demos, samples, open boxes, etc... That probably explains the temporary price drop.
I got a F707 from Ritz camera yesterday for $750 along with the
free softwares and other discounts.
Yes, the Ritz "digital advantage" bundles a lot of stuff, including free classes.

I went to Best buy on Sunday and bought an S85 for $399. A friend suggested that I try Sears for the price match. So I did and got the camera for $380 (399 - 10% of the difference ($599-$399)). I went to Best Buy to return the first camera and they asked me why I was returning it. I told them I got the same thing from Sears for $380. They asked if I would keep the camera if the price was rematched to $360. I had to say yes. Now it guess it's back to sears to return the second camera.

Maybe Sears will match the Best Buy match...and on and on and on.

I also bought a S85 from BestBuy for $399. Called Sears and they said they will price match. But their computer showed S85 for $499 (not $599). That's only $10 difference after price match and Sears has no 18-months interest free offer. I think the price match at BestBuy is an isolated case.

I just bought a sony 85 at sears , they had four in stock. They honored the best buy price plus a 10 percent return of the 100 dollar difference too !!!!!. I was out the door for 409.00 . I was going to buy a sony 717 , but this deal was just too good...

This is a link to their on-line flyer that is still up. Print it out and they must honor.

Just a quick FYI.

Best Buy had a small article in the Boston Globe appologizing for their recent add. It was supposed to read something like this:
$100 price drop. $499 after drop.
Well, still waiting on Sears to match my price through sears.com.
We'll see what happens.....

I'd suggest dont let Best buy off hook on this matter. If they advertise then make them honour it.

Thanks, tried that already, all Sears stores claim they're out of
stock.
That's terrible! Depending on whether or not you want to follow up,
you could contact your friendly neighborhood consumer reporter. Or
the atty general's office. There are laws against false
advertising. I believe they HAVE to honor the ad. On the other
hand, you might be better off getting it online. B&H has it listed
at $499, but they have their "email me a better price" function
with it, so you might be able to knock $50 or so off.

Hi Ken, I'm trying to click the link but it is not loading. Do you know if there is another one? Thanks.
