The "seller" (a.k.a. crook, swindler, hoodlum, etc) now says

Western Union and change the receiver name with my name.

We played with the guy for days, eventually I told him I had sent the money and we were going to alter a Western Union receipt and send
it to him. A colleague here in the office realised as we were doing it that
we could get in trouble for fraud if we went that far. ;-)
So we left him alone.

I also email him a week or two ago about the Canon 1D and got the same eamil back. I told him no thanks. I wish we could take him for a ride. I don't understand why ebay alouds this. A camer that sells for $4400.00 1D or one that sells for $8000.00 1Ds and not out yet and he will sell it for $1400.00 is a fraud (no brainer) and stupid people fall for it al the time.

It seems pretty obvious, especially in the case of the 1ds, that the "seller" is trying to pass off something which doesn't exist as stolen goods.
Anyone responding here is trying to buy gear which wasn't legally obtained; that's the basis of the scam I think. Ya don't sell an $8k camera for $1.9k, and we all know it. Sure greed is involved, but you don't even get close if you're not prepared to buy stolen goods.
So whilst it's funny watching these things, it seems to me that [present company excluded] there are at least two theives involved: those who're doing the scam and also the punters who respond, trying to obtain a stolen 1Ds.
Generally one theif makes some money (the scammer) and the other loses it. It would be good if we could then mop up the scammers too, but the net result is that theivery doesn't work, which has to be good for those of us who don't want our stuff stolen ;-)
