In another Dpreview forum (Other Digicams) I got a "blue screen" warning inside the forum message borders, NOT on full screen of the computer. The shade of blue was a dull, lighter blue and was not backlit like the usual warning.

It read STOP:( followed by a series of numbers.) KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR. Followed by instructions on what to do if this was first time and what to do if it happens again.
I wonder if it is legitimate warning or some Sick ------'s BS.

It occured in the forum, OtherDigicams, was first message of a recent (2 day old) thread about Optio 330RS and 440RS cameras.
I'd like some input. Thanks, lectraglide.

(Just now when I clicked "preview" for this message I got an oversized page full of computer gibberish, (senseless letters and numbers completely filling every inch of the page, Have I been smitten? Help!)

That's weird. I'm on Win2K Server, Norton AV disabled, and none of that BSOD popped out when I went into that forum. "KERNEL_STACK_INPAGE_ERROR" sounds very much like a system error to me.

Actually, he didn't indicate a BSOD but an error message within the message frame.

Electraglide, it could be related to your browser needing an update or something similar.

lectraglide,

Do a virus check on your pc first. It could be boot-sector virus. If it's not a virus, then it could be your HD is having problems. Have you de-fragged recently. I don't recommend people de-fragging their hard drives unless it is a last resort to solving a file retrieval problem.

It also could be a bad RAM module. I would check your RAM first before the hard drive. Use only one module, restart your pc, and if everything is fine, then insert another module and restart your pc. This will tell you which module is possibly defective.

That this was being shown in a window is a dead givaway. A real Windows "blue screen of death" (BSD) is a full-screen affair, as the nature of a BSD means the OS has no way to know if the windowing system is even working. Therefore Windows (if it is even working to that level) swaps the display memory out, clears the screen, and shows the core dump in plain text mode.

Thank all of you for your help. I'm computer illiterate and depend on people like you for help and information.

Since the message was inside the forum borders and not full screen, I thought someone might have been messing around ( as if they had copied an actual message and sent it some way in the forum).

The first paragraph stated that if this was my first time to see this message then I should restart my computer, which I did. The other instructions stated what to do if it had happened before. I have no doubt now that it was at least a copy of a real message. Maybe a real one from my own windows system. It's just that since it did not involve the full screen and was in the forum itself I had doubts.
Again I appreciate the help and I'm saving the link that explains the message.
