Camera of the year voting

645D also has quite a lot of votes...
But overall Pentax figures are quite unbelievable :-)

Pentax : K-7 - DA 12-24, FA 31, FA 50 ; TAMRON 28-75, 90 macro

I'm not sure this is because of great brand royalty between Pentax users or brand indifference between others.

It's the singer not the song.

Perhaps it's just a reflection of the fact that with the K7 and Kx Pentax got the design of the cameras spot on. Whilst high ISO and DR etc. might be of concern to the more committed enthusiast many of us just want a camera that is the right size and easy to use, something Pentax do well.

Whereas I like the results of course, it's hard to believe this represents an audience that is representative of the current photographer.

Not judging any of the products, but given the lack of visibility of Pentax products, these results simply cannot be accepted as representative. I could accept the results for the 645D or K-5, the impact of both possibly not yet visible in the market, but for older cameras like the K-7 to lead in its category, whereas it's invisible in the field, is harder to believe as real.

It looks more as if only Pentaxians have discovered the polls so far...

I think the sample is small and skewed. It won't take much to shift things around. These polls have little to do with a cameras actuall merits.

yeah, I think something's happening here that's weird. I fully believe the K-5 and 645D should be tops in their categories, but in other categories, it seems suspect... especially the P&S cameras. Pentax does not have very good P&S cameras, but they are leading in those categories too. Out of the waterproof cameras, it should be Panasonic that leads, but it's the Pentax, which is very suspect. The same goes to the superzooms.

I had to double check my eyes when I saw the most viewed cameras database, Pentax spiked skywards after DPR placed the new K-5 review up:

Pentax K-5....121,934 views - review up Dec 18

Nikon D7K......98,253 views - review up Nov 30

Canon 60D......58,770 views - review up Nov 10

Seeing that D7K review has been up since November 30th and K-5 only since Dec 18, shows an huge spike of interest

As the newest review, of course it garners the most hits. It is a popular camera and should remain on top for awhile.

pentax is now leading 7 categories with the k5, kr and 645D destroying the opposition with around 62 percent and and the kx a stunning 75 percent. Amazing stuff. Pentax are back. I wont bump this again promise.

If previous polls are something to go by, Petax fans just vote in droves for their brand and vote multiple times. Proof? look at these polls

2008
http://www.infoborder.com/Digital_Cameras/Competition/dslr-2008/index.php
  • Pentax K20D - 70% | 11014 votes
  • Pentax K200D - 5% | 814 votes
  • Nikon D90 - 3% | 588 votes
  • Canon EOS 5D Mark II - 3% | 555 votes
2009
http://www.infoborder.com/Digital_Cameras/Competition/dslr-2009/index.php
  • Pentax K-x - 30% | 562 votes
  • Pentax K-7 - 23% | 432 votes
  • Nikon D3S - 18% | 341 votes
  • Canon EOS 7D - 15% | 289 votes
Another example is that Pentax forum is the only forum where this 1001noisycamera poll was promoted (in this case by OP) No other forum even cared. All Pentax fans are going to vote 1000 times each.

Now, Now, WCM, that's like the pot calling the kettle black.

and the poor NEX and A55 is falling behind in votes. Come on Sony people, if you like your camera so much, vote! LOL!

Look at these two polls

and then say if it's pot calling kettle black or just stating facts. I challenge you to find polls like that.

Well, except for the K20 in 2008 none of the cameras scored in droves. Leaving the K20 out for a moment, you might be right but it's also possible that it was only Pentax users who actually thought that highly of their cameras.

I agree that the K20 votes look odd but you can't draw general conclusions from one model.

Apart from the insult to Pentax users, which is offensive, this statement is clearly illogical - if it were true for previous years it would mean that a grand total of 13 Pentax users voted; and in 2009 K-x and K-7 were voted for by 1/2 a user each. What nonsense.

The K20D was a very special camera when it was released. It was the first DSLR with > 12mp, with class-leading high ISO performance and lots of rave reviews, especially from The Online Photographer, where it was compared to full-frame dslr's and praised for film-like texture. I remember voting in that poll and IMO the K20D was that much better than the competition at the time.
