Camera of the year voting

You really have an interesting trend of pulling the most odd and no-name websites for reviews and polls.

But I can do the same...Here is a top 10 list, and Sony is no where on it. Also most online voting is tracked by IP's and you can only vote once per IP address.

2009

and then say if it's pot calling kettle black or just stating facts. I challenge you to find polls like that.
If previous polls are something to go by, Petax fans just vote in droves for their brand and vote multiple times. Proof? look at these polls

Urging pentax users to go vote it up. A small poll like that wold easily be changed by such a post.

Not just here, but in the Pentaxforumsdotcommy and other pentax user groups.
It happens everytime, and skews the results each time.

This announcement of the "Camera of the Year" Voting, was the most subtle I have seen, but effective none the less. As many who would never have known about the voting have now gone and voted a lot! haha

We are very invested and protective of the Brand.

It is like the local taco stand workers, who gets all their friends to vote four and five times for "Best Mexican Restaurant" in the annual local paper contest... A tad desperate!

I'll have two chimichangas, hold the cilantro por favor...

Your link is to amazon best selling cameras, and amazon does not directly sell most of Sony cameras. They never sold Nex directly (a few third-parties did on amazon) and they listed different Nex models (colors and lens combos) in all different categories makling it impossible to be reliable stats.

Even 1001noisy cameras added a note that Pentax fans are promoting the polls in Pentax forums

http://www.1001noisycameras.com/2010/12/cameras-of-the-year-readers-choice-voting-begins-nao.html

I bet every one is voting 100 times each, and this happens every single year as I posted examples here

Funny you find nothing odd about last two polls where top two cameras are Pentax when Nikon and Canon combined have 75+% market share with Sony distant third, and Pana and oly doing good with m4/3 too. Pentax had less than 4% worldwide market share in 2008/2009. Amazing that no one bought Pentax cameras, but the entire world agreed that top 2 cameras were Pentax models in both 2008 and 2009. Nothing odd there really.

In one of your previous posts (above) you said, "All Pentax fans are going to vote 1000 times each."

Make up your mind. Is it 100 or 1000?

It really doesn't matter though does it? Either way you can still get your panties in the normal state of wadded and tight.

BTW I am a Pentax fan and I never voted. So there. Stick that in your Sony pipe and smoke it.

Yes, you are Pentax fan for sure since my factual post about how Pentax fan do it every year
got under your skin. You got to be Pentax fan.

I voted once, as I have every year. I voted for the 645D, K-5, K-r and K-x in their respective categories because I believe they are the best choices. Why don't you go whine about lack of participation in the other forums instead of whining here about Pentax enthuisasm?

(PS We know why)

I am not whining. I am stating facts (proof and links were posted) that showed these online polls mean nothing as Pentax fanboys are the only ones who promote these polls, as even the noisycamera owner noted. Look at the top clicked cameras on DPR and IR main pages. K-5 showed up only after review was posted and won't be there at top too long. Kx, Kr, and 645D are nowhere to be found.

Looks like they are selling the NEX directly. At least as of now. (ships and sold by Amazon)

As I've stated before, these online polls are limited by one vote per IP address. Unless you have an ISP that allows you to change your IP multiple times per hour (which I doubt), there is no way to vote more than once. Even people with "dynamic IP's" have their IP assigned to them for a good long time, unless they shut off their modem for a good time during the day.

Let's round the numbers and say C and N had 40% of the market each. That's 10X the Pentax share but C and N have always had a much wider range of models, so any votes for them would be spread wider. So while each of their models would still sell more than each Pentax model, the difference wouldn't be 10-fold.

No "survey" that depends on voluntary input ever means anything. Whether these results show that more Pentax owners (proportionally or absolutely) were delighted with their purchases, or that fewr C and N buyers bothered to register their satisfaction really doesn't have any significance.

Here your exaggeration is gatting the better of your judgment again. The total number of votes you listed is a couple of thousand each year (apart from the K20 numbers). That's nowhere near the entirle world - indeed, it's nowhere near the number of camera owners in the world. Trying to suggest some sort of conspiracy from such a tiny sample is meaningless.

LOL, so because Pentax users are very happy with their cameras you have an agenda to beat up on them.... good for you.

Personally I do not vote in this sort of rubbish poll but don't care if other choose to.

Cheers and really you should get a life..

You missed the main point. If the poll results bother you, why don'tyou try and generate some interest on other boards instead of whining that we participated?

Clearly you do this because you're a troll, you'd rather argue than contribute.

They must have start selling them recently. Even then, they put this color/kit combo in wrong category, messing up the best selling list.

There are not that many Canon & Nikon models listed on these polls, and if even you add all canon models, they still lost in these polls. Your argument is invalid. The more straightforward and valid reason is that Pentax fanboys aggressively vote in these polls and promotote them on dozens of sites (as noted by noisycamer owner who added a note about that). Canon & Nikon owners don't give a crap about such polls. Why? Probably because they feel more secure and don't think they need to win online polls.

That's much simpler and logical explanation.

EDIT
proof:
http://www.infoborder.com/Digital_Cameras/Competition/dslr-2009/index.php

Three Canon cameras listed (compared to two by Pentax). Canon 7D, 5D Mark II, and 50D, and even you add all votes by these cameras, it's still lower than Pentax K-7 votes. Nothing odd there really given in the real world all these Canon cameras outsold Pentax by 10 to 1 each.
