My stupid wife

I was recently on a Caribbean cruise enjoying the warm moonlight night from our ship's balcony. My wife said "Why don't you take a picture of the moon and water". I carefully explained that the ship was moving and pitching and rolling, I would have to handhold the camera, and that a long time exposure made it impossible.

To humor and silence her I tried it with my 500D with 15-85mm set at f/5 using ISO 3200. The exposure was 2.5 seconds! Imagine my surprise when the picture came out so sharp you could see the stars. I'd like to think this was a 1 in a 1,000,000 chance but several similar pictures came out sharp! How stupid is that?

 
Hehe. I try to get you in trouble.

I used to take long exposure at dawn and used hand-held flash to illuminate some object that I want to. The image usually came out spectacular.

ur pretty stupid for even calling ur wife stupid. and u call her that cuz all she wanted was for you to take a picture on ur vacation and have a nice picture, and u tried to get all technical on her ass... so wat cuz u cant do it, ur wife wont get a picture and is not stupid?, she might as well be better just putting the camera on auto and taking it than having u around.

i hope she knows u posted a thread in her honor
 
Nice picture. remember this is the digital age. Go buy an extra memory stick or two and shoot everything and sort them out when you get home.

It's not stupid at all. The moon, the stars, and even the clouds are so very far away from you. As long as the cruise ship moves along a straight path, your perspective of the moon would not change with a mere 2.5 second movement. And it just so happens you have absolutely nothing in the foreground that would be affected by motion blur. You couldn't have done this on a moving train, for example.

Cmon easy on him, elder people tend to do that.. He is over 65 yrs old. I too was offended by that title so I googled him :-)

First you learn spelling. Then you learn about punctuation, when to use capitalization and how to put sentences together. Comprehension follows. With comprehension you get to learn how to interpret the written word. After all that you may be successful in recognizing that the form of expression that the OP used here is called irony. He expressed the exact opposite of what he really meant.

Once you understand all that, it's time to read his message again. :)

I'm really, REALLY glad that I wasn't the only one thinking this. It's pictures like this that demonstrate the utility of having non-experts around, and I'm glad the OP decided to share.

It was me being stupid as proven by the pics I "knew" were impossible. I thought this would be clear but, since it's not, I'm now in deep manure.

Here is a Nassau pic of wifey and me in happier times. This is followed by a more recent shot of me taken by my ex-wife.



 
While I do not normally tells guys this but in your more recent photos you really need a hair cut and some lotion. Get out of the sun it is ruining your skin! :)

Hope your wife reads this and finds a bloke with a better lens.
