Zion National Park

Thank you Richard :)
I like CC.

I used a D700 and Nikon 14-24 & 24-70 lens for all the shots.
Excellent shots. My only observation, and hardly a criticism, is that I find the second-to-last shot slightly over saturated. This may be down to taste and certainly not something you should feel slighted about. Well done.

May we know you choice of camara/lens?

Thank you :)
The Narrows seemed quiet that day, but I've not been on the hike before.
I think I was in the river for about 6 hours.
Beautiful shots!

We did the same 2 hikes in late September and had plain skies at AL and too many people at the Narrows. You were lucky and took advantage of the opportunity to come back with some great images.

Mark, how long did it take you to get to this point from the time you started hiking? Also, how strenuous was it? Dave

Why didn't they let you go to the top? It looks like a great day, and no visible snow. Just curious.

I think it took between 1.5 to 2 hours to reach the top, but I stopped a few times to take photos, the penultimate shot shown above being one of them.

It is strenuous in parts, especially if your carrying equipment and not used to the elevation.
But, if you keep stopping for a rest, you can easily make it.

One of the steepest sections is near the end of the hike, called "Walter's Wiggles".
Which is a series of switchbacks.
Here's a picture I found doing a internet search:

You've got the Wiggles, Angel's Landing and The Great White Throne at the back.

At the time, I thought they must have closed the path, because it rained hard the evening/night before and maybe the path might be dangerous.

But, I've later found out they only open the top section at weekends and close it the rest of the time.
Which seems a stupid idea.

But, I'm not sure if that just applied to the time I was there or it's even single week during the "end of season".

Funny, I was in Zion during October also. Here's a link to my galleries...

We had a few of the same shots, not surprising. One shot of yours is identical to a shot of mine in the narrows. A beautiful place if ever there was one. My bro-in-law and myself are trying to get lottery ticket for the wave. I saw in your other thread you have been 3x, nice score. My b-i-l has been before on someone else's ticket, we are hoping for March....

Did you rent or have water gear or just brave the water temps and hike in your regular clothes? We rented pants and boots, don't think I would have wanted to go in hiking boots or water shoes and shorts, it was pretty cool when we did the hike.

We were in Zion from the 26th thru the 29th, wonder if we crossed paths??????

Nice galleries Mark,

Bill

Very nice shots in your gallery Bill, you got the fall colours.
Numbers 17 and 36 are duplicates ;)

I rented dry pants, socks, shoes and a stick from an Outfitter in Springdale (around $38).
I'm glad I did, because my boots would have been ruined otherwise.

I was there on the 16th, 17th and the morning of the 18th.
The 16th a Saturday was very busy, I think it's best the avoid the weekend.

That is a great pic which really shows the trail nicely. What would keep you from going to the top anyhow? How do they close it? Dave

Great pictures! Thanks for sharing. They make me want to go back and take more pictures. My friend and I went in September and did the top down day hike of the Narrows but were so worried about getting back after the shuttle stopped running that we didn't really stop to take pictures =[

Thank you :)
Sorry to hear that.
Did you you manage to catch the shuttle ?

Yup, we managed to catch it with time to spare =] We think the timing provided by the park service might be a little off.
