A couple o' shots from a weekend visit to Zion in October.
I think I was there a few weeks too early for the Autumn colours/Fall colors.

It was my first hike up The Narrows and to Angel's Landing.
The very top of Angel's Landing was closed, so I could get to the top.
And it was a dull day for The Narrows hike too.

Zion is one my favorite parks,

Thanks for posting,

It may have been early for Fall colors but Utah is definitely not shy about being colorful. A group of us decided to trek in early July, 2007 and it was HOT! The only relief we got was negotiating the Narrows but we encountered numerous people so getting a shot w/o people was nearly impossible. However with a CPL the bright sun was muted and the colors were gorgeous. What was humorous is how non-level a camera shot can be when you are partially dehydrated-:)

Angel's landing was open at the time and I was pleased we left at 6 for the trek.
You are privileged to have had some clouds and not too many people.

Utah is a grand venue for the photographer. Thanks for sharing..

Thank you :)

There were people in the way at Angel's Landing, but I pushed them to their deaths.

Or cloned them out, you decide ;)

are you saying you pushed people to their deaths & then cloned out the evidence of their dead bodies? Mark, why would you go telling the World this???

... I mean, I can see where you'd have some pride in your cloning abilities, but, I mean, really...

Nice shots; makes me want to go back again.

Overcast light is more of a blessing in the narrows; in full sun the dynamic range is brutal and hard to deal with...

The narrows is a great place to traverse, but there is always the worry about slipping with thousands of dollars of gear on one's back. That water must have been cold!

Cheers,

Excellent shots. My only observation, and hardly a criticism, is that I find the second-to-last shot slightly over saturated. This may be down to taste and certainly not something you should feel slighted about. Well done.

May we know you choice of camara/lens?

Beautiful shots!

We did the same 2 hikes in late September and had plain skies at AL and too many people at the Narrows. You were lucky and took advantage of the opportunity to come back with some great images.

I didn't need to clone then, they were at the of bottom of A.L.

Some other poor sap, would have had to deal with the mess, gooey trees no doubt :D
I left Zion a few hours later, it was the prefect crime ;)

There wasn't that many people when I walked The Narrows.
I must have been lucky.

I was really hoping for the cliff walls to turn a golden colour, like you see in most of the photos, but it didn't really happen.
I guess you're correct, it did cut down on the harsh light.

I was concerned about falling in.

It was near the start of my vacation. I had about another 3 weeks left of it, and with a wet camera, it wouldn't have been fun.

I rented dry pants, shoes, socks and a pole from an Outfitter in Springdale, so I didn't notice the cold water.
