LX5 flashgun

It's not small, but the Oly FL36R works well on the LX3 and certainly will on the LX5. All TTL and zoom functions are retained. As a bonus it works on all 4/3 and µ4/3 bodies.

cheers,

Rick

Is there a small flashgun like the Canon 270EX that will TTL and bounce on the LX3/5 ?
I keep a list of forum tested flashes used on LX3 here http://homepages.tig.com.au/~parsog/panasonic/11-flash.html#flashlist and one new favourite for a few is the Nissin Di466 for Olympus/Panasonic.

For successful bounce in a variety of room sizes then the 4xAA battery flashes will work best, but they get a little cumbersome in the hot-shoe so a side bar and flash extension cable is more stable and comfortable to use. Any of Panasonic/Olympus/Canon flash extender cables will work.

Guy, many thanks. A fantastically useful table within an equally useful website. I feel quite guilty at saying that the flash table would be even more useful if it included the gun weight inc. batteries, especially as I can't find the info. for the Di466 on the Nissin website !

I also notice that there is no mention of the Canon mini-flashgun 270EX, or the Nikon equivalent, which seem to me to be a better size fit than all the others. Is that because nobody's tried them?

Are you planning to update the website with LX5 hints and tips - I guess many of the LX3 ones would still be relevant.

BTW I noticed on another thread that you have deserted the "I won't buy it if the shutter makes a noise" team. Shame - there's not many of us left !!

Keep up the good work.

No more detail than that. I have the links so people can go look for themselves, my Nissin link works to the general Nissin page and then this link is found there http://www.nissindigital.com/en/Di466.html

Not tested by anybody then it's not mentioned. But of course any flash with safe trigger voltage that can be set to self-auto mode will work. If it is a TTL only flash then it won't work unless dedicated Olympus/Panasonic, but I need feedback, I don't test all this stuff myself.

Only if I bought an LX5 and that won't happen. All I will do is provide links to LX5 stuff on my LX3 links page. Only decent reviews will appear, not things like the cnet junk site. I bought an Olympus E-Pl1 the other day and with it's lenses and my old 4/3 lenses plus Nikon lenses I can now have 22mm to 300mm equivalent for Olympus lenses and up to 480mm with Nikon.

Well, next holiday takes me to scenic Western Australia for 3 weeks and it was a case of expanding my image ability and also to allow my wife to also use either the LX3 or E-PL1 as she is having the over-pixelled blues with her current pocket camera. Why oh why did they not stop at a sensible pixel count, all the current crop of pocket 10x zooms really are a bit on the rubbish side at times. At about 5 or 6 MP they were fine, now at 10-14MP they are plastic images that look strange.

As for silent shutter, yes I still want that, but the E-PL1 will do for situations where I can't annoy anyone, and then the LX3 will be always in a belt pouch for those sneaky and inconspicuous shots.
Keep up the good work.
Maybe.
