I have a Sandisk Ultra II 1 GB SD card which works really well and holds an incredible amount of pix. I recently acquired a Sandisk Ultra II 4 GB SD card. When I place it in the camera it says card must be formatted but it won't do it and just keeps saying it must be formatted.

How can I format the card? Can I do it on my laptop?

Thanks

Hi Jeff,

AFAIK dx6490 does not support SDHC. So the maximum capacity of SD card that you can use is 2GB.

SDHC standard was made on 2006, while dx6490 was made on 2003... :)

Jeff, 2 gigabytes is the maximum for the DX6490 and the camera will perform the same whatever speed of card you use because the camera's processor is slow by modern standards.

So the el cheapo SD cards work a treat which should be great news for those on a budget.

In my opinion, the out of camera picture quality of the DX6490 is still unsurpassed by any modern camera.

Best from Muvvie.

Missed the formatting bit, Jeff - always in a hurry here.

Cards should be formatted in the camera for best results according to the photo gurus and I have always done so and had no problems at all.

Thanx all for your responses. I guess I will stay wih my 1 GB and a few 256 cards. Never haver run out of space even when I took over 1100 pictures on a trip to Israel and Egypt.

And I agree that the quality of pictures right out of the camera is great. Makes me look good!
