I recently received a ride in a WW 2 B-17G Flying Fortress bomber as a birthday gift from my family. It was great fun and I took my G2 along.

Here are some of the pictures of this flight: http://www.pbase.com/jiml/b17

Btw, for anyone who likes aviation, a ride in this aircraft is a terrific gift. I included more information about this is in the link above for those interested.

Great photos, great gallery, great subject! Kudos to you Jim! I'll bet you got goosebumps flying over the city looking through the bomb sight, must have been quite the adrenaline rush of mixed emotions for bombardiers of the day flying over Europe.

BTW- I like the spare parts box on the turret. Was there something about the turret that commonly wore out in flight that could be fixed easily with the enclosed parts?

By coincidence I was watching "Memphis Belle" on UK TV until just 10 minutes ago. Gives you an idea of what it was like to fly B17s in daylight bombing raids over Germany in 1943. Pretty terrifying!

I was a mechanic on B-17's near the end of WWII ( Believe it or not in the U.S.Navy - VX-4 squadron) Your photos bring back memories. Living here in Lakeland, FL where we have "Sun'n Fun" Fly-in every year in the Spring almost every year we have a B-17 fly in. This year it didn't make it here.--

Great shots of the 17!!! I really enjoy seeing some high quality images of areas of the plane that normally are not seen. Thanks for posting!

I also have a gallery of aircraft on display at the Calgary Aviation Museum in Alberta, Canada.

I've just returned from a week in Ottawa, Ontario Canada where they have the Canadian Aviation Museum. I took over 230 shots but the lighting was poor and the camera got warm so the hot pixels had babies - I'm going to have to do a bit of Photoshop work before I put them up in a gallery.

nope but I have sat in that exact plane before :). My father is actualy friends with one of the mechanics(they went to school together). She is a beaut though. What I really want to fly in is a p-38 :)

I remember years back when they had more then a dozen b-17s at the EAA fly in. Now they have two.
