Took a day trip to Jekyll Island, Ga., and shot a lot of pics. Here are two...with a request...can someone identify the bird species for me? Thanks!

First pic D300 70-300 F9 @ 200

2nd pic is HDR with 12/24 Tamron

The Bird's name is Boris, he was a bartender at the Owl and Rat Tavern while he went to school to become a a Graphic Artist. However, as economics would have it, as well as fate, he ended up a beach bum.

But things are looking up! Since this photo was taken Peter Jackson was browsing the forums and decided to contact Boris to star in a remake of The Man With Two Heads. Or at least this is what Boris has told me .... he could be a liar ....

Well, you didn't ask for photo critiques. On the other hand my wife looked the bird up in her favorite bird book under Gulls and Turns and that's a Laughing Gull. The book she has is the Sibley Guide To Birds and it lists countless types it seems. It's a National Audubon Society book written by David Sibley. We have a lot of different kinds of birds locally my wife was tired of not identifying and bought the book a few years ago.

I'm not a huge fan of HDR at any rate, so am not the one to ask about that. The sunset shot is appealing though. It also comes at a time when I was just working on a similar set of photos my Grand Daughter shot with her Panasonic and so it caught my eye !

Thanks David & Tom.

Guess I need to go back to the drawing board on the HDR pic.

If you are old enough to remember, the gull looks like a long lost relative of Gertrude and Heathcliff.

PS Only Red Skelton fans will get the reference.

Andy, I'm a big Red Skeleton fan but don't remember the tie-in for those two identities. Sorry.....but I know if it came from R.S. it had to be funny! :-)

Gertrude and Heathcliff were gulls that Red Skelton would do skits with.

Gulls --> Gertrude and Heathcliff --> Red Skelton

I was very young when he was on TV, but do remember all of his characters.
