I was looking at some old folders tonight and I found these that were rejects to the insect challenge. Not the best shots, but there is something that I like about them.

This one reminds me of Disney's "Bugs Life."

This one is not the best bug macro, but I liked the colors and the flower.

I just like the way he/she is holding on here.

Nice shots. The detail in the third one is really good. I like the face on the first one. My favorite of the 3 would have to be the second one because of the colors in it. That blue sky and green and pink of the flowers looks really good.

That first pic reminds me of that rotten grasshopper in the movie A Bugs life! These are rejects eh? LOL I if only I could have such rejects. Great shots in my book!

Thanks Dwight! I really like the composition and colors of 2 also, though I wish the DOF was "slightly" deeper to get the flower and the grasshopper in focus.

great shots Ken. You know what? With your style of shooting which seems to be macros, you might not even need the firmware upgrade. Did anybody taking a lot of macros see a difference with the new firmware?
Cheers :-)

Thanks Gary!

I am going to to the upgrade this weekend. I don't see how 1.7 will change the actual quality of the shot, though it might make it a little easier to get the shots.

Good luck with the new camera!

Ken. Nice. Pix #1 is an outstanding macro. And the 5000 does even
better with 1.7? Gary

The detail and color are unreal. I don't know how you get the color and detail to look so 'rich', it almost looks like something out of a movie!

Thanks Hariette, :c)

I take all types of shots, not sure why I only post macros.

Hariette, what kind of improvements do you see in the 1.7 as far as picture quality? I have read on the forum that they are sharper, better colors, no more ca, less noise, and a few others.

Honestly all this feels true, but my guess is because the camera is more responsive, the enthousiasm for the camera has increased and people are looking (feeling) at their cameras with a more positive eye. As far as Moi the camera is more predictible and that is my number one praise for the upgrade, the rest comes to place because there's less frustrations when taking shots. Specially after this summer when I was using the camera along with a Canon (a wonderful cheap Powershot A200), I got really annoyed by the moodiness of the CP5K. I can only tell you for sure that the firmware took care of it. Hope this helps a little :-)

Concerning your concern about the red noise in the sky, I took 3 unscientific shots just for you, I'm not sure it will help but I figure the sky is everywhere you might want to try to match the settings and take a shot at the sky with firmware 1.6-- each at different EV and you have the full EXIF (hand held)

I particularly like 2 and 3, though all are excellent. Do you use any special lens - or just the camera's macro? They are SOOOO sharp.

THANKS Hariette!

Sky looks good! I notice that the noise with the 5000 tends to be grey and from the few shots that I have seen the 5700 shots tend to be more red.

Thanks Muriel!

Hard to tell what lens I used here. Looks like the 28mm. I do use the 19mm and the 170mm for these kind of shots too. Guess I need to take a notepad with me when I shoot.
