Been using dslrs for years....but never the movie mode.Got my a T2i and recorded a movie (1020x1080 30fps).Downloaded to PC(new PC with Windows 7 64 Home) with no problem....but playback with Windows Media Player is choppy and pixelated.

Will downloading the Canon EOS Cd's software that came with the camera give me a better player?Or what inexpensive(or free!) player will work.I'm really a novice with the movies!
Thanks! Diane

We need to have your computer specs. Playback of HD video on older computers or computers using poor video cards (without GPU acceleration) will result in poor playback.

I have a PC at work that cannot play the T2i videos without it being very choppy. My iMac at home plays the videos just perfectly.

If you do have a newer computer download the latest version of Quicktime as this may help.

The movie file is .mov format so you should be using Quicktime to play it. If you are using Quicktime and its still choppy, it may be due to your video card because the file is in HD 1080p format.

Computer is a new Dell 435T (almost exactly like the Studio 9000)
Core i7 920 2.66 Ghz
6GB Ram DDR3-triple channel
ATI Radeon HD 4350 card
640GB SATA HDD
Dell 2209WA Monitor

Hope that helps.
Thanks! Diane

VLC Media Player is free and will play your mov files.

If you plan on editing simple movies, consider buying Cyberlink's Powerproducer 8. Shop around for it. Amazon seems to have bargains. It is the only editing software on pc that automatically makes proxyfiles for easy editing. I tested it myself with a trial, and it works like a charm. I'm a Vegas fan myself, but hate the transcoding (and the extra cost).

I use Pinnacle Studio 14 Ultimate, no transcoding, no proxies, plays and edits MOV files in full resolution smoothly. Unless you need features it doesn't have - its your best bet.
