Interesting.

http://canonfieldreviews.com/

To me this seems more like Nikon poaching than really being upset with his Canon equipment.

It seems the author is a little upset that Canon didn't drop everything and give him a test 1D4 for weeks on end so he called up Nikon to complain. Nikon never missing the chance for good press sent him thousands of dollars worth of gear for testing.

He was also grumbling that the 1D4 isn't FF and was grumpy that Canon hadn't released the 1Ds4 yet. This is hardly a reason to sell all of your gear and switch equipment.

(Disclaimer: I'm not knocking Nikon gear here.)
Anyway, just struck me as a little strange. What about you guys?

See how easy it is to buy someone over these days?

Nikon sends him some free expensive cameras and lenses and now he is all pro nikon. Just last month is he was praising the Canon and the 7D. It really makes his future reviews/comparisons with Canon not credible. I can already detect a great of bias in this first post of his.

Frankly those images don't look that good to me. I have seen much better from both Nikon and Canon users. They are over sharpened or something.

The solution is always simple. Getting there is the hard part.

I have always loved to shoot with full frame cameras like the Canon 1DS and 5D cameras. I was very disappointed when Canon was still using the 1.3 crop factor in its new 1D Mark IV. I’ve been waiting for the 1DS Mark IV,.....
Anyone else think that he doesn't understand the 1DMkIV, and the reason for the APS-H sensor?

He doesn't sound like a great loss tbh.

Great news guys. This means that there is room for one of us to join the Canon team.

Let's register "Nikon field reviewer" or "Absolutely not Nikon field reviews" or ...

Sounds like he was planning the switch for sometime but just had to take this opportunity to whine about some things.

As my late father once said, Your integrity is priceless. But once you sell it, it's worthless.

His credibilty is now in question regarding any reviews he does, regardless of brands. It's now really up to the people who may look at his new site if they consider him totally objective, or independent. I certainly wouldn't.

It would be interesting to see if there is a disclaimer page listing equipment donated by manufacturers, or any payments recieved. I'm sure there won't be.

I said the same thing earlier. totally agree with you. there is not way his reviews would be objective since Nikon is paying his bills

Huh! Maybe I could pick up some good cheap used canon lenses from him?

then again maybe not.

I agree, they have an aggressive tonality that is quite unbecoming to the subject - especially the last one is completely overcooked and shows no detail in the highlights anymore...
If that is the quality he craves for...

He's also deleting his Canon reviews - as if they weren't correct, so it's a total sellout...

It's appalling IQ, isn't it? Something else I find funny is that they're almost all soft and/or OOF - with the best camera and one of the best lenses that Nikon make!

They should be more enough to turn anyone with a clue about the subject matter and an eye for image quality, right off Nikon. Haloes, blown highlights, no detail, horribly overdone contrast, and terrible colours...

Still - nice and clean, eh?

;)

Regarding the OP, no magic in it - Canon didn't give him what he wanted, he held them to ransom, he chucked his toys out the pram and Nikon were there to catch him. If Nikon want to throw kit and money at him, it comes as absolutely no surprise, and also don't be surprised if he spends a lot of time going on about how much better the Nikon kit is. I'm sure that'll be in the Terms and Conditions of his Nikon kit supply.

It's the same in any business and indeed what I have to deal with. If my third party suppliers don't give me value for money, or what I want (within reason), then I'll take my business elsewhere.... and so should he!

If canon don't deliver, he should walk.

He has removed his reasons for switching from his web site due to all the negative comments he has received. Both brands have strengths and weaknesses. Why 'divorce' ones' self from a brand and be limited to only half the gear possibilities? Good tools come from both Canon or Nikon and in the hands of a capable person can produce exceptional results. Keeping an open and impartial attitude to all products allows for the selection of the right tool for the right job.

Well, one can certainly do better with the top end cams from either Nikon or Canon so if Nikon wants him so be it. The images he posted of the common elders are to the point of being garish they're so overcooked. It's post processing you'd expect from someone who doens't know what they're doing but not from a supposed seasoned pro.
