Ah, no, it's not a baby. hehe

It's a kitten. Two Friday nights ago when my husband and I were at the movies, a neighbor came by with this "Bundle of Joy." They had found it under a bush in their back yard shaking and crying.

We started feeding him with an eye dropper of milk until the next day when we found out he was old enough to eat cat food at 6 weeks. He slept for two days in a row. When we were around he would hiss and spit at us. LOL

Now he feels right at home. I had never had a kitty before and had no clue they would instantly "potty train" when you place them in a litter box and scratch their foot in the kitty litter! Beats puppies any day, even though I am a dog lover.

Well enough talk. Allow me to introduce Sylvester!

We've already made it to the emergency vets. LOL

My youngest, Jenny age 8 wanted Sylvester to stay inside and accidently shut the door on him while she was going outside.

After x-rays and a check-up and $250 later he's fine! LOL I thought it was just adult healthcare that had risen! Sheesh!

We learned that a wild feline bonds tremendously with his rescuers, but stays their distance from strangers. When they brought Sylvester out for us to take him home, they had him wrapped up in a towel. I guess he was hissing and spitting at them! LOL

I'm going to have to teach him some manners. hehe

Welcome to the cat world Dee Dee. Get him fixed as soon as the vet will do it and keep him inside. You will learn all kinds of fun things.

What a photo op you have adopted! Sylvester is adorable! We acquired our first cat last November and he's been a total joy. We'd been "dog people" for 35 years and a cat was so novel...so really trouble free. What surprised me most of all was how loving the reputably "independent" cat can be. That purring little bundle of love in my lap melts my heart. I hope you are as blessed.

Hi Dee,

What a beautiful und lucky little guy! And what a great shot. Thanks for sharing.
And you think a kitten enriches a doggy household? Maybe i should try as well?
Looking forward to seeing more Sylvester portraits!

Thanks, Heidi

--

Absolutely...Our dog is hyperactive...wanted to play all the time.

Kitten was acquired to be a playmate.

Only damage was a couple of nips on kittens neck (fur gone, a telltale sign...no major damage)

Dog had to learn kitten was not a chewie.

They play rough...cat makes a heck of a racket when they're playing...but I know they're playing, otherwise cat would be behind the fridge.

Sometimes they'll lay together taking a sunbath. What a photo op!

At night when I'm watching tv in bed they curl up with me and it's like taking two tranquilizers. I love my two buddies.

Yes...adding a cat to a dog family is really nice...only downside is my dog doesn't get such a huge chunk of my heart...it has to be shared a whole lot more.

Isabel

You have to provide ways for the kitten to get away from the dog.

Louie da cat used to jump on my secretary's chair and then up on the counter (where I keep his food).

One day the dog was chasing him and he decided to aim for the counter without taking the intermediate chair step first. He landed on his elbow and BROKE IT! Surgery to wire it together cost $900 plus he had to be crated for close to 6 weeks while it healed.

Nice shot! That is going to be one much photographed cat. I like the angle of the shot , with sky, (I presume) as background.... Need to try that with my dog.

Good for you, DeeDee! We always had a dog when I was growing up, but after owning a cat for 13+ years now, I've grown to love them too. I'm glad you decided to give this one a good home, and we'll all be looking forward to watching his antics on this forum!

a WONDERFUL photo...how did you set it up...ie lighting, etc? I need to make my shelter cats and dogs look that good...they'd find homes in a heartbeat! That's why I'm considering moving from the Minolta D7i to the 717.
