When not carrying around my D700 kit, I try to have this little guy with me...it's really fun to shoot with :) Seems like there are more and more options these days for small lightweight cameras, so what do you guys use to augment your standard gear? Take care, Steve

I have a Nikon Coolpix S52. It does all my video (since my D3 doesnt do any [not really a problem since I do very few videos]) and it doesn't have a lens that sticks out, so it fits easily in my pocket. It produces pictures, but there's a real tradeoff between convenience and IQ. It gets kicked around a lot and spends a lot of time in the truck glove box.

This camera is a gem, takes superb pictures when coupled with some of the excellent lenses available, and is both the perfect travel camera because of size and weight as well as street shooter.

Although I still love my D3 and various lenses (notably 14-24 and 24-70), it's so much more convenient and easy to take the GF1 and its superb 7-14 lens when traveling.

Here are some shots from a trip a couple of weeks ago to Antarctica and South America, all taken with the GF1:

Very fast in exposure compensation and superb for lightweight/small underwater cam.

replaced my G9. Loved the Video on G9, on the other hand I didn't use it that much so Highiso is a +

When I can't have my D700 with me I use my D-Lux4, it's greate.

Nikon 990 :-)

...a Ricoh GRDIII.

I was very tempted by the GF1 but decided that I wasn't ready to go mirrorless/EVIL just yet. Waiting for a Nikon EVIL or for the next gen GFx/EPx.

One reason the GRDIII is good for me is because I can't keep buying lenses! I'm not buying the wide converter either...I use it as-is and try to carry it around with me everyday. Also the handling would put a lot of SLRs to shame...

All taken on the Ricoh:

Unfortunately I've failed with my photo365 project (due to lack of time/opportunity) but I still try to take a photo as regularly as possible.

I got it as a present, but it's a fun camera to take underwater at the beach or pool.

I just picked up an Olympus E-P2 a couple of weeks ago with the 14-42mm kit lens. Very compact when compared to my D700, with excellent image quality. I used it walking around NYC, and it's ideal, at least if I don't need the full low-light abilities of the D700 or PC lenses. I kind of like the EVF and manual mode. It makes it very easy to get perfect exposure. The camera magnifies images automatically when you manually focus the lens, which I love, and the in body IS is nice for a walking around camera. I'm looking forward to the Olympus 9-18mm lens that's coming out next month.

great lens on it.

When not carrying my D700 I am using my Olympus E-P1. It has actually surprised me how much I use the E-P1 compared to the D700 due to small form factor. I also have a Nikon to M43 adpater so I can use my Zeiss 35mm 2.0 and 50mm 1.4 on the E-P1.

Here is a Gallery of E-P1 shots with various lenses. Most notably Olympus 17mm 2.8, Olympus 25mm 2.8 pancake, Zeiss 35mm 2.0, Zeiss 50mm 1.4, Nikon 85mm 1.8, and Nikon 100mm 2.8 E series.

I was trying to decide between G11 and Lumix GF1 and got the GF1 with 14-45. It is nice to have a camera with me when I can't take a big bag with D700 and assorted lenses. Only had it 3 weeks but have been pleased. I also got the optional viewfinder which I have needed on some shots and wouldn't want to be without.
