Hi all I was wondering.

How quiet is the k7 compared to the k10D? ( I have got the last one, it is almost near dead so I might have to replace it in a short while)

The shutter of the k10D is LOUD but hey that is mt opinion..

And how is the k-x compared to the k7?

Today I held a canon 50d ( No not switching) and i found that sound also quiter then the k10D. Looking to the review of the 50D on this site a pro is the quiet shutter.. The k7 review... Not a word about it

And how to compare the 50D shutter sound to the k7 sound?

Someone has got soundclips regarding the k7 shutter sound?

The K-7 shutter & mirror sound is significantly quieter and softer than the K10D's. I couldn't tell you how many decibels.

I don't own one, but by all reports the shutter/mirror-slap of the Kx is marked and definitely louder than the K7. I'd love to know how loud it is relative to the K20d, which I have. I'd like to physically downsize at some point in the future, but noise is actually an issue for me.

It's noticeably louder than any of the non-weather sealed cameras, but comparable to any of the other non-sealed models.

You can judge by yourself - here is comparison of K-7 and k20d shutter sounds

I have both K-7 and K10D, and K-7 is much quieter
The K20d sound was spot on - especially the continuous fire. Then the K-7 fired up in continuous and I started laughing. That sounded like a Ford model A at idle (not the volume, just the sound).

Thanks for the link. I'd like the upgrade my K20 for that feature alone, but I can't justify it yet.

Well, Ford still sounds like it can do more "frames per second" :)

Jadran,

Thanks for the link. I think I'd actually seen that before. What I'm looking for is the Kx compared to the K20d. That is, when people say it's loud, is it K20D loud, slightly quieter, or even more pronounced?

Andrew

I think it is more quiet the K10/20 D on this video
I am afraid it's hard to judge when you don't have direct comparison of two cameras on the same video. Those recordings are too unreliable, either by volume, or environment. I see people putting cameras on tables that resonate etc.

You also add with or without a lens attached and the fact that the Kx is snapping of shots at a much faster rate to factors affecting the subjective sense of noise. Still, you do get some idea. I'd say that the character of the Kx isn't too far off that of the K20d. Nothing you'd want to fire off during a church service or violin recital, but not out of control.

k-7 has the most silent shutter/mirror of any DSLR i seen. better than 7D and 550D(havent compared to 50D though).

Thanks for that reply, but could you clarify? You compared to "non-sealed" in both cases.
Grrr. I meant, louder than the sealed cameras, about the same as the non-sealed ones. That is, all non-sealed cameras are louder than all sealed ones (at least in the Pentax lineup), and the K-x is squarely within the non-sealed category.

K-7 is very quiet. Sorry, can't quantify it, but it's noticeably quieter than any other Pentax I've owned - *istD, DS, K20 - and the quality of the sound is very soft. Sorry, no experience with K10, but must be similar to K20? I can tall that for example my wife was taking my pictures in a forest on a quiet day from couple yards distance and I couldn't tell if the camera was firing. My ears are perfectly well. My brothers shoot Nikon - currently D700 and D200, but had others as well - and they were specifically impressed by the quietness of the K-7 shutter. Now, they always tease me about using Pentax, so this compliment is worth a lot.

K-x is another story. The sound is loud and sharp, akin a cheap toy. It's a great camera (just got it too) and might be better than K-7 if you don't need the weather seal and ready to live with menu interface, but if there is one thing screaming "cheapo" about it, it is the shutter sound.

Have to say, though, I handled K-x after having K-7 for half a year. My dad, coming from K20, didn't mind it at all. After K-7 the Nikons also sound very loud, the difference is they give this confident heavy slap and K-x sounds almost like a tin box.
