Has anyone used both of these lenses and can you tell me if there much of a difference in focus speed?? I plan on renting the Sigma but I wanted some thoughts so I would know if it would be worth my money even renting the lens.

I haven't used the Canon lens but bought the Sigma, used it for a day and returned it.

The Sigma had good build quality and was a nice lens to use but pictures taken wider than f5.6 were useless, IMO. They were very soft with lots of blooming. I couldn't improve them much in Photoshop. What good is a 2.8 lens if you can't use it at less than 5.6?

Exactly. I use most for my lens wide open. I have read that with a Sigma it is good if you get a good copy for your camera. I have heard stories were it may be spot on, on one camera and way off on another.
