I realise we've only had the 5D2 for just over a year but has anyone had to replace the clear plastic cover over the LCD screen so far? Is this a replacement part one can buy and fit oneself or a job for the Canon service centre?

You can replace them yourself as they are only stuck in place with a double sided tape gasket. Call Canon service and get the part number - the replacement screen glass and tape is about $15 apparently.

Thanks. I'll call my local CSC and ask.

Perfect, and good news to me. I almost never use the LCD screen so mine suffers from my heavy breathing and ogre teeth and I'd dreaded the day it needs replacement. Yep, this is good news indeedy!

Here is more info regarding the part numbers:

CB3-4948-000 WINDOW, TFT DISPLAY
CB3-4949-000 TAPE, DOUBLE SIDE

(taken from the Canon Parts Catalog)

Not so special - lots of things use them.

Where to get it???

Well, I got four on a car sun-shield, but I have heard of people using the base of a GPS windscreen mount or even the front sucke from a kids toy arrow. ;-)
