Does Real-image optical zoom viewfinder mean the G11 has a 100% viewfinder? It was on my wish-list.

Such a thing is impossible. The only OVF that can have a 100% coverage under all conditions (focal lengths and subject distances) is one on a (D)SLR.

Hi Jim,

No, it means that it is optical and not a eletronic viewfinder. If i´m not mistaken it is 77%.

Yes, there is a paradise! And thank God I live near it.

I've never owned one Canon G... I suppose there are no exposure informations on the viewfinder ?

The Nikon SP film range finder camera of 40 years ago had a 100% optical view finder and I believe the Leica does, too. Is it that hard for a P-S camera? Or does it make it too large?

What Leica does and Nikon did 40 yrs ago has no bearing on a Canon product yet to arrive. Real Image means you see thru an optical path, not an EVF, LCD or other electronic viewfinder.

But you've asked this before, been answered, asked again, etc. -- so you must just be trolling.

Not possible to have a 100% optical viewfinder. Hmmm... then how come my old Leica used to show me roughly a 250% view when I used my 50mm lens? On an SLR it is also technically possible to have a larger than 100% viewfinder.

Larger than 100% is no problem. The problem is having (almost) exactly 100% under all conditions (focal lengths and subject distances). Having more or less than 100% is then a designer choice.

Actually, a 100% zoom coupled and angle corrected OVF IS possible. What is not possible is to get the exact viewing angle of the lens (full parallax correction). That is only possible by viewing through the same lens as the picture is taken, such as a view camera or SLR or using an EVF.

Fully coupled OTFs are complicated, expensive and bulky, even without the range finding component.
