Canon's silence on Mark IV

Personally, it has made me push back any purchase until next summer when there should be an abundance of reports and reviews with which to make an informed purchase decision.
That's understandable. But, I'm hoping to have 6 months of fun using the 1D Mark IV by then.

One benefit of waiting, though, is that Canon is possibly set to roll out a bunch of new lens updates over the next few months. Rather than buying something obsolescent now, you can match your new 1D Mark IV beauty with a spanking new lens or lenses that won't be replaced soon (14-24, 35L II, 24-70 IS, 70-200 f/2.8 IS II, 300 f/2.8 IS II, 400 f/2.8 IS II and 500 f/4 IS II).

They were trying to get each other killed!
It almost worked.
That was scary, indeed...

...of course, this is not what I was talking about regarding Americans being able to laugh at themselves.

This was just bluntly provocative and only fun (?) in the TV show context.

Given the combination of the themes, all shown together on the 3 cars it could only perceived as a provocation...Even in Massachusetts, probably :)

The last fiasco cost Canon more than sale of the MII. If you see my post Of a year and a day ago. I did not pick up my order of a 1DsMIII. Of course a few months later I did purchase a 5DMII. BTW it is one of my best purchases ever!!!..It was not the flaws with the MIII it was the way the issue was handled... Not as bad as Tiger Woods but a second fiasco could be... Jak
We all remember your post of a year and a day ago, it really shook up the whole photographic community! It was right up there with tiger Woods AFAIC.

Trust me, the 1D mark III had MAJOR ISSUES with focusing. Just ask any photographer in Beijing....those were good times ;-)

For the first time, the Nikon boys were laughing as the lines to the support centre grew and grew. Not a pretty sight, or delightful wait.
The 1D Mark III "issue" was a relatively rare condition under rare situations only experienced by a tiny minority of 1D Mark III users. But, the detractors were successful at perpetrating the fraudulent charge that it couldn't focus.
Now, I've heard it all!

The D3s having only 12mp ( I would like 16) doesn't have enough resolution for all of the work I do but it would be good for 75% of it.

Just an FYI......

Back in 2006 I shot this one Image with a D2X....

I was displayed at a trade show at 16x24......... FEET!!

It looked wonderful!!

Then again, you don't look at a 16x24 Billboard from 8" at 400% on a computer screen!!

It was printed at 150DPI and you look at it from about 50 feet and it was 25 feet up in the air.

IMHO, 16 MP is not going to make a better Image than the 10MP the MKIII has!!

A well Focused MKIII Image con be blown up to Billboard sizes without a problem.

I did pay attention to the 7D as i ended up buying one. I will wait about a year before i consider a 1D4, hopefuly price will come down by then.

There was alot more samples even guys who had preproduction cams talking about the 7D. Some on the xxD forum. This is quite a bit differant. What it means is any ones guess. My guess is there is a problem and the cam wont be out as soon as expected, again just MY guess.
I didn't pay much attention to the 7D, was there more example before release compared to the Mark IV?

if it's a half a stop better then D3, which would make it withing spitting distance (but stiil behind) the D3s.. I would be happy enough.
Why should anyone settle for second best?
maybe high iso is not my only concern.. besides with D3s being FF and MKIV being 1.3x and more MP's.. just trying to be realistic you know.

Trust me, I know!! I love the 1.3, 1.5 and 1.6 Crops for Field Sports!!

if american; it's all one big conspiracy, probably related to the government in some way, shape, or form

for everyone else; wait and see

BTW, for those that do not, and never will understand the british SoH, the above was irony with a liberal helping of sarcasm
watch it, black helicopters DO NOT appreciate sarcasm!
Those would be Nikon helicopters. Canon helicopters would be white, and 0.8x the size.
don't let yourself become disappeared....
It's called noise reduction.

Below is an extract from Diglloyd's post on the D3s:

Today, I shot in the forest late in the day at ISO 3200 and 1600. I am very impressed with the D3s image quality, and I wish to reiterate my previous advice: if you enjoy low-light shooting, the D3s is simply stunning, you won’t believe how good it is. At about $5199, it’s not cheap, but wow, what a workhorse it will be. It’s clearly a distinct step forward from the original D3. Get one before word gets out about just how good it really is, and it becomes hard to find!

no shadow camera goes away until after winter, it is really crazy the media blackout, when the 1d mk3 came out the forums were lit up and it was 2 1/2 months late and the fixes took almost a year, this lack of news to any dealers or anyone in fact even has the dealers really at a loss of when. You would think Canon would at least say something is imminent. I really hope for our sakes as much as canon they get it right and also on time. I would rather them be truthful and run a blog than have them think we are mindless boobs that they feel do no rate the honesty after ponying up 5k for the camera. I have spent between last year and this year well over $ 40k on canon equipment as allot of others have. I am sure I speak for other to CANON please keep us informed good or bad, no one likes stretching the truth or not being told the truth. I really hope they are on time and this was not a marketing ploy to stop potential d3s sales. Canon we believe in you and love you, don't let us down, tell us what is happening.

As for the direction of the thread itself- why would anyone of sound mind use any camera for any job- let alone shooting an Olympics in 61 days with a camera that is not yet shipping- without hundreds of hours learning and field testing every aspect of the camera?

An incrementally higher ISO or an extra FPS is simply not worth the risk. The published images from Torino and Beijing were not exactly dark, full of artifacts and out of focus.

Canon obviously want us to wait for Mark IV. If we look at the consumer and high-end models, they just show up without much warning, whereas Canon 1D models are announced months ahead of their availability.

The reason is that we should stay away from purchasing competitive products and the longer a vendor can keep us waiting, the better for them. Down-side is that it will also slow-down the sale of the current model, but if that sale is low anyway, it won't matter that much.

I'm very satisfied with my 1DmkIII so I'm not waiting for the mkIV, but it was the same process when mkIII was annouced around 3 years ago - I couldn't get one from Canion in DK before June 2007.

Its the FOUR. I remember that you cannot have a 4 because it sounds like a bad luck word! Like NINE for composers.....

So it'll be a Mark FIVE? This again will sound very strange, but Canon G2, G3 and then G5

Gee!

I wouldn't do it!!

Because they picked the best!! They didn't publish the Duds!! Trust me, the MKIII yielded tons of duds!!
