My luck with portable electronics ran out when I discovered a cracked screen on my F200EXR this morning. It must have hit something or flexed too much in my pocket. I use the soft case.

How much would Fuji charge for screen replacement? $125?

What would you do in my shoes? Wait a little for an upcoming newer model? Send it in for repair? Or consider an alternative like the Canon S90? (I do a lot of low light shooting in social situations.)

I cracked the F70EXR's screen after a few weeks. I sent it to Fuji, who repaired it for less than $100cad, and I have been happy with it since. The one thing you need to contemplate is that you could add the repair cost to itself and probably get yourself an F70 now ...

Yes.. I also just received back my F100fd from Fuji Canada repair of the cracked screen as well.. it cost about $88 I believe for the parts, labour and shipping.

My screen was broken by an idiot throwing my rucksack in a fit of temper not knowing the powered off camera was inside.

It's fine now. I think (but maybe it was me and I never noticed) Fuji scuffed up the shutter press button, but I don't think I really care about that.

I wrote for them to also test the focus after the repair because I was worried if the throw was hard enough to crack the LCD, maybe it was hard enough to shift the sensor out of alignment, throw dust, or something. I haven't yet tested it with any pictures to see if it still works like it used to.. any suggestions on how I can test to make sure that stuff is still "sharp" as opposed to "good enough" ? I don't have any "before" images that I can duplicate exactly from controlled conditions.

Well, since you don't know how it was beforehand, you can either duplicate a shot you have and see if you like the output now, or you can try shooting something that can show you the sharpness and pixel peep a bit.

I liked my F70 from the first shot, but I know its sharp because of images like this:

I would get it fixed unless you get an F70 EXR.

A few of you would benefit from a hard shell case.

Which hard shell case would you recommend for the F70? Is there one that is protective yet compact? I like to keep it in my pocket rather than wear it on the belt.

I replaced a cracked LCD on my F100fd with a replacement LCD I bought off of Ebay for fairly cheap... $30, maybe?

The replacement came with backlight, so it was a very easy job. Just unscrew the case, unplug the old and plug in the new. I think there's a Youtube video showing someone doing it in

Only catch is the security screws on the bottom of the camera - I just used a flatblade screwdriver jammed in the screwhead and it worked fine.

you were very lucky - No problem anyway, the Drivers are there on E-Bay as well (£3) the HK company who does LCDs supplies one with Fuji LCDs if I remember rightly

Very friendly posts.
Much friendlier than "advice" about buying a new camera.
Any particular URL's and ebay sellers tips would be even more appreciated.

When you're picking out your hardcase, try putting a useless old compact it in, like some Samsungs or Nikons, then put the whole thing in your front or back pocket and just sit on it or crush it with your thighs and body.

If the camera's damaged, then THAT hardcase isn't the right choice.

The seller is called valueshophk , I'd do a search for them on E-Bay and ask if they do the F200 LCD - suggesting you get an F70 is about as helpful as suggesting to LX3 owners with a broken screen to get a TZ7 !! .

I guess you could look for a scrapper on E-Bay with a dud lens and replace the whole back of the camera (if the Donor is the same colour and condition

Actually $27.99, if you do it yourself.

or if you send them your camera, and $6 for shipping, they'll install the LCD for you.

they did my F100 LCD quickly and it works.

Ebay
Search for F200 LCD (or F60)
store: DHcamera
seller: rongyuanxie

turnaround time was very good (like 2 days) and they were readily available on email for communication.

Exactly. But look what kind of the trolls dominate this forum.

It may be some wisdom on the bottom: if they so vigorously discourage from buying F200 it may be a limo indeed.
