D60 discontinued?

Sounds like nonsense to me. The design team that developed the D30 and D60 took about 1-1/2 years to replace the D30 with the D60. It's safe to assume they'll take another 1-1/2 years to replace the D60 (probably late 2003 or early 2004).

I think your Ritz salesdrone is giving you some sales B.S. in an attempt to get you to buy a different camera (since he knows you'll go somewhere else if you really want a D60).

Be real, Bill. Why would Canon discontinue a highly sought after quality DSLR after only a couple of months? Doesn't make sense.

1) d60 first anounced in jan-feb almost a year
2)in the fast moving world of digital cameras to upgrade a camera
model in a six month time frame is reasonable
3)i think upgraded version is more accurate than discontinue
4)people in this forum seem to be illusioned that there is a "hugh market"
for digital slr cameras that cost more than $2000

in actuality the market is very small compared to the entire digital camera market

I feel the reason there is such high demand for the d60 has nothing to do with a massive market for the camera, but a product suply problem with canon.

5) since the market for digital cameras in the over$2000 range is probably small it would be in the best interest of canon to capture as much of the market as possible.

if in the last 6 months canon can execute improvements into the camera such as improved

focus speed and improved mangement functions why would they wait to implement these features? Waiting only gives customers on the fence between Nikon snd Canon less probababilty to choose Canon.
6)digital cameras are a cross between advanced optics and computer technology
the optics have a slower technologic advancement rate

For both software and hardware in the digital realm 6 months is a long time not to implement technolgical advancement.

7)if i join a waiting list today such as ritz's list there is aprox 3 month waiting list this brings us to december. I am not one to put off a purchase however i have learned from much experience the first release of a new model usually is the fastest to be revised.

This wouldnt surprize me at all. This whole thing about not having enough D60's to meet orders after it was announced a year ago is a very strange way of marketing something. I am glad I kept my D30.

I remember when the some were saying "when pigs fly" to the announcement of the D60 and then low and behold there it was

It wasn't the design team that took so long, it was the fact that there was nothing to compete with the D30. The D60 came just before the D100.

Only if Canon has fools calling the shots. Now that there are other cameras out there you will see much quicker upgrades from Canon in order to stay ahead. With tech, once things get going they go fast.
