Who is upgrading when the 1Ds comes out?

Hello everyone,
Well now that the 1Ds is common knowledge I would like to know what
everyone is going to do in terms of upgrades. I am personally
excited about it because this might be my chance to get into the
DSLR world with a used camera from someone who upgrades. So here
is the question: Who is upgrading and from what? I think this
will be a good thing for everyone; for those who want the 1Ds and
can afford it as well as for those who buy the used cameras of
those upgrading as well as the price drop that will possibly occur
on new 1D's and D60's. Let me know what you think.

Wait for most of the bugs to be worked out. Like Front focusing.

Biggles,

I have been quiet up to this point and willing to give you the benefit of the doubt, But I know for a fact that Canon or any respectable company(that is not in dire straights) does not take money from anyone for a product that is very much in the prototype stage and not even near production. I can conclude from this that all you have said about having money or gear are lies. You do not have to lie or have money to be an equal member of this forum, but to lie is to just loose everyones respect. I once knew a fellow like you who said the same kind of things, perhaps he was even worse. We all felt very sorry for him and his sickness. If you can, you should seek out counseling.

This is all I will say on this subject.
Godbless and good luck to you

If the IDs had a body similar to the EOS 1IV or EOS 3 without an integral second grip, I'd trade my D60 in a millisecond. Unfortunately, I am not comfortable with the ID and so won't be comfortable with the IDs--just too heavy for an old geezer like me.

Yes you are right John, but we also must realize that the EOS 1D
is the most bashed digital camera ever made. Very few posters on
this site give it any credit at all. I can't wait for the 1Ds
criticisms.
Really? So far evey single time I've read something about the 1D, it was a praise... Are you sure we're talking about the same camera? What don't you like about it?

gotta love the effects of having money.
Not when the "effects" are tacky behaviour.

If you really NEED(so desparately) something to "show", SHOW A LITTLE CLASS!

All you've shown so-far is that your new-found "wealth", if it's real, is something you are so unfamiliar with that you don't know how to handle it gracefully.

Notice how few people have chosen to "take-you-on" with a matching display of ostentation, by listing all THEIR impressive/expensive possessions?

Note*: This is to their credit!

Pay attention, ...you might learn something.

Do you really think you are the only one on this world-wide forum with some money?

What you are "only", is the one who makes such a show of it.

New purchase, not upgrade, unless you count my G1 ;-)

Couldn't afford all the steps in-between (not a "pro").

Been hugging my piggy-bank, waiting for just such a performance-level/ combination of features.

Note to biggles (smallels?): I got my money the old-fashioned way.
(mugging old ladies ;-)

Larry
I expect to upgrade from a D30 to a 1Ds.

I didn't upgrade to a 1D because the photographic quality of the 1D
was not significant enough to justify the costs.

I didn't upgrade to a D60 because I didn't want the extra
resolution enough to buy a camera that not better from an AF
perspective.

The 1Ds almost doubles again the resolving power of the D60, and
has the superior AF of the 1D... provided it cost about the same as
the 1D then I'm upgrading. Canon are you listening??

I will use the 1D for moving objects like most wildlife and the
1Ds for static images where detail is more important than the
movement.

Currently the 1D is the direction I want to go. More action based
wildlife/nature work. The 1Ds is where I am at. The action thing is
really tough :-) Give me a year and I will be there.

To bad the 1Ds didn't come out first.

Steven
Going on the assumption that the 1Ds has a slower FPS than the 1D,
the 1Ds would not meet my personal needs as a sports photographer.

For me, a bigger image size is not that important. Nice to have,
yes, but not important.

I feel sorry for Mr. Biggles, in the end money can not buy you respect. All he has really accomplished here is to make himself a laughing stock. New found wealth is a hard thing to deal with and our Mr. Biggles is not coping well at all, let us wish him well for the future.

There is enough that the 1D can do which the 1Ds seems unable to do, that I will add the 1Ds to my tool kit. I would suspect that many will do the same.

Hey biggles I was hoping that you would post some action shots from yer 600 IS...I have been thinking about it and would like to see what it can do. I would really appreciate it.....do you have a site up on pbase or something that I could go to????

Well, I'm not sure I'll add a second digital body to my bag.

But if I do, the 1Ds will probably be it, rather than another 1D. Based on what little we really know right now, that is. Picture quality, price, etc. still remains to be seen.

I'd rather have one of each than a pair of either.

But somehow I doubt Canon will drop a dud ala Contax.

No the 1D covers my needs digitally for now, if I need more quality I pick up 1V with provia or RZ 6x7. I want more than 3fps remembering my D30. II autobracket quite a lot. As ths "s" signifies, I think, this is aimed at studio photographers. If I were one I would be be very tempted but have to look at how it performed against Contax 645 with Kodak back, I understand that Kodaks software is amazing. Software is something canon needs to address. One thing for sure we aren't going to see many pro film body development from now on. david
