Hello everyone,

Well now that the 1Ds is common knowledge I would like to know what everyone is going to do in terms of upgrades. I am personally excited about it because this might be my chance to get into the DSLR world with a used camera from someone who upgrades. So here is the question: Who is upgrading and from what? I think this will be a good thing for everyone; for those who want the 1Ds and can afford it as well as for those who buy the used cameras of those upgrading as well as the price drop that will possibly occur on new 1D's and D60's. Let me know what you think.

I love my 1D right now... but if the 1Ds is true, I probably will take the plunge. I like the handling of the 1D, but do not absolutely have to have its speed. So if the 1Ds retain the handling etc of the 1D but gives me more pixels, why not!

The question is whether i want to keep the 1D as my backup or not.

yes I think that will be the question for many people especially if the 1Ds has the reduced fram rate that many expect ( 3fps)

Keep your 1d as a "teleconverter". The crop factor might come in handy with telephotos. Then again, with the 1ds, you'd have the ability to digitally crop anyway.

exactly. with 11MP, you can crop a lot more than the 1.3x of 4.1MP... actually i haven't done the math... someone want to do it

If it's only 11MP and full frame that would not be enough for me
to sell my D60.

I need something more: better AF, better Whitebalance, better
color, etc..

therefore, it's 'zoom factor' is greater! From the same distance with the same lens their will be more pixels of the subject with the 1Ds!

Nope. Maybe pick up a 1D someday if the price comes down (or I win the lottery but I'd still keep my D60) but I'm so happy with my D60 that I can't imagine spending that kind of money and dealing with the huge file sizes and even more expense for storage. Just not interested.

I expect to upgrade from a D30 to a 1Ds.

I didn't upgrade to a 1D because the photographic quality of the 1D was not significant enough to justify the costs.

I didn't upgrade to a D60 because I didn't want the extra resolution enough to buy a camera that not better from an AF perspective.

The 1Ds almost doubles again the resolving power of the D60, and has the superior AF of the 1D... provided it cost about the same as the 1D then I'm upgrading. Canon are you listening??

Nope,

Not going to upgrade at this time. Heck, Canon has yet to fix some of the issues with the D-60. I am somewhat concerned that they are more interested in getting a new camera to market than making sure it has been completely debugged first.

And once that camera is in the marketplace Canon seems to be somewhat reluctant to:

a. Admit there are problems with it
b. Quickly address and repair those problems.

I think that, at the risk of not being the first on the block to own one of these D1s marvels, I'd wait a bit and see what problems arise with it. Then, if they are things I can work-around easily, I might consider it's purchase.

rich..

I've waited and resisted buying the less than ff sized plagued SLR’s. I had the feeling that they were nothing more than stop gap fillers. The 1Ds is the next tier in the digital SLR development and will certainly be followed by many other ff cameras. I think I'll not let my emotions get the best of my wallet and just sit back and watch the reviews and see what Nikon offers up.

I need something more: better AF, better Whitebalance, better
color, etc..
That is already available in the current 1D.

Yes you are right John, but we also must realize that the EOS 1D is the most bashed digital camera ever made. Very few posters on this site give it any credit at all. I can't wait for the 1Ds criticisms.
