Canons Digital 300V ? 1000.00 dollars

My post was meant for a completely different thread.
I don't read German, but it's pretty easy to make out.

EOS 300V Gehäuse 319,- Euro (assume body only)
EOS 300V QD Gehäuse 369,- Euro (with Date)
EOS 300V mit EF 28-90 399,- Euro (body and a cheap lens)

To be release around mid September 2002.

The used price of a D30 would give any new DSLR within the $1K
range a hard time selling. Why? Because the chances of a new $1K
MSRP DSLR outperforming the D30 is slim to none. Just ask one
question, if they introduce a $1K DSLR, what sensor would it have?

Anything less than 3.3Mp, people would laugh at it. If it's the
same as the D30 then it's like re-inventing a camera they already
have. Anything higher than that and it's competing with the D60.

But again, introducing a new "film" camera in this day and age is a
business decision that I don't understand either, so anything is
possible.
could there be a digital SLR in there but they just got the 300V
name put in by mistake. I know there was a lot of talk about a new
Digital Rebel in the works for 1000.00. Could there really be one?

The release mentioned a second new digital SLR known as the EOS
300V, also due for unveiling at Photokina. According to Westfall,
this model is identical to the Canon Rebel Ti, which was announced
in the States on August 27. Canon expects that this camera, likely
to be priced at an astoundingly low $1000, will "become the world's
number-one selling SLR camera."

Whats this I dont understand? This was supposed to be a film Camera
but at 1000 dollars it cant be.

This new camera has been widely reported in UK photographic magazines (including this week's British Journal of Photography -- dated 11/09/02), complete with detailed specs and price, and it is definitely a 35mm film SLR -- NOT DIGITAL! (I guess that it is simply the European name for what is known as the Rebel in the USA.) It is reported that in the UK it will be priced at £260 and go on sale in October.

It is also one of the ugliest SLRs I have ever seen -- mostly silver with a very plain featureless front and horrible curved handgrip. I sure hope that Canon don't base any future Digital-SLR on the design of the 300V.

Terry.

EOS-1Ds SLR

I have been swamped with emails from folks all over the globe
letting me
know about the premature release of info on Canon Europe's web site
yesterday about the upcoming EOS-1Ds SLR. This info was supposed
to remain a secret until just before the start of the Photokina
show in
Germany on Sept. 25th but it's out of the bag now. The new Canon
EOS-1Ds will feature a full-frame (in 35mm equivalent) image sensor
with a total of 11.1 million pixels of resolution. We can only
guess at this
point that it will be built on the existing EOS-1D body and get
this, it will
possibly sell for around $6000.

And if that wasn't big enough news, another tidbit of info also
slipped out
in reference to another Canon digital SLR to be introduced at
Photokina.
The Canon EOS 300V which will be identical to the Canon Rebel Ti
35mm film camera. And can I have a drum roll please, the expected
price of this new dSLR will be an amazingly low $1000. No other
details
as far as imager resolution or focal length multiplier is available
just yet
but Canon expects the EOS 300V will "become the world's number one
selling SLR camera."

Oh boy, is this going to be an interesting and fun year or what!
jerpa,

Steve changed his posting at http://www.steves-digicams.com/diginews.html#eos1ds

Now it's:

"I have been swamped with emails from folks all over the globe letting me know about the premature release of info on Canon Europe's web site yesterday about the upcoming EOS-1Ds SLR. This info was supposed to remain a secret until just before the start of the Photokina show in Germany on Sept. 25th but it's out of the bag now. We can only guess at this point that it will be built on the existing EOS-1D body and that it will possibly sell for around $7600. "

So - Steve retired statements saying the 300V is digital.

And he changed his mind regarding the estimated price of the 1Ds from $6000 up to $7600.
