Please let me know first three digits of your serial number.

I just bought one and got a serial number 930XXXXXX. Also, something weird happened to me. The sticker on the base has serial number 977XXXXXX which is different than the serial visible in the exif. The sticker looks wrong in a way also but I can't post a picture. It stuck on and looks like it could peel off easily. Anyone hear about stolen cameras with fake stickers...I really don't want to have bought a stolen camera.

Thanks in advance,

oh man...maybe I got a counterfeit 5D II from China! ;-) I'll give it to the Chinese, the focus is spot on. Anyone got a serial number starting 09XXX?
Thanks in advance,

Hi

I got mine in January and the s/n is 023xxxxxx

Trevor

I got my Canon 5D II two days ago from B&H. The serial number is: 102XXXXXXX . There are 10 digits compared to the 9 digits which you mentioned. In the sticker is is mentioned as "(21)102XXXXXXX". So there is an additional "(21)" in sticker. That is same in the sales receipt also.

I am thinking of getting an extended warranty from and do not know which way to put the serial number (where to put the extra "(21)" )

Got mine 1 month ago, s/n 0920...... with 1.1.0 firmware.

As an aside, I initially just opened Lightroom and checked the exif data of a 5D2 photo. It didn't show the leading zero in the camera s/n. Forced me to check out the camera itself to verify that it does indeed have a leading zero.

I got mine 2 weeks ago with serial 0830xxx....Came with firmware 1.1.0 and kit lens that was manufactured 05/09.It's in service though due to af point illumination ghosting - occasional lock-ups and heavy focusing issues with direct and not so direct sunlight...

cool, thanks a lot. I'm begiinning to guess there's just a wrong sticker on the body but everything else is OK. The camera seems completely new and no problems...knock on wood.

Why don't you just call Canon and tell them about this. I am sure they can help you.

My serial is the same between body and serial on Exif data,
and the serial number on body is a good printed number (not a sticker).

Here's online exif viewer:
http://regex.info/exif.cgi

If your serial is different between body and exif it can be a duff camera or refurbished one.

You probably can have a problem in the future regarding the need of genuine serial number.

Better to return the camera under "false identification camera" or breach of originality, it maybe a criminal.

Unless if the store can prove that it is original by a statement from original Canon service.
But it's them to prove it, not you.

If Canon lets it be different between body and exif serial number, then let's open another thread to talk about quality.....

I have an 0220 start. I got one of the very first copies in the US.

Your Chinese-knock-off probably lacks the squeaky door of mine, so that is one thing you will miss out on ;).

normal, almost like part of the body itself, i don't even think sticker when I see it, like on any other canon SLR

where did you get yours??
maybe a refurb??
looks like Canon is careless. How does the sticker look?
