I am 100% sure that there will be an Olympus EVF (Electronic Viewfinder) late September-October. No mistakes here. We got multiple confirmations from our best sources.

The electronic viewfinder allows you precisely framing and focusing with ALL lenses. It helps people to be closer to the camera (like a rangefinder!) and to be able to work faster.

Actually the missing EVF inside the E-P1 is probably the biggest selling brake for people who is interested to get the E-P1. If you havn’t got the E-P1 because of the missing EVF you should rethink your decision or at least you can wait 2-3 months http://43rumors.com/attachable-olympus-evf/

Why would Olympus hold info like this if they are trying to sell this camera.

There are no electrical contacts that would send any info, including a image, to this finder.

It amazes me how stuff like this gets started!

or a joke? Not funny if it's a joke......

Hope it's real.

yeah, but a level 5 rumor - still a rumor, but ... let's hope

I'm amazed as to who would take the time to start these kinds of rumours. What's in it for them? What prompts them?

I would think that any electrical contacts for such an EVF would be available through the flash contacts.

In any event, I hope it's true. An EVF would counter one of my major criticisms of the camera.

It's common knowledge that Olympus have already stated the contacts are all ready there in the hotshoe. Those contacts are not just for a flashgun. They are multi purpose.

but I suppose some may like it. I'll wait for one w/ the EVF built in as it should be.

Aliens.

You can take pictures of crop circles using an Olympus camera.

See the connection?

They're responsible for crop circles and Olympus rumors.

They're not taking responsibility for Mel Gibson, however.

Where did they state that? - please point us all to that statement ..

Ricoh have a complex terminal bank behind the hotshoe on the GX100 (not it's NOT USB as a previous poster thought) , I'm sure they'd have used a 2 connection serial link in the hotshoe if had been feasible..

If by some miracle, Oly have pulled this off (along with a far more useful and believeable Intelligent AF update which detects the kind of lens and uses G1 speed for M43 lenses and sloow speed for 4/3 with adapter) then Great but I can't see it ..

Please ignore the Typos, I'm the world's worst Typist

Half of it at least. We know that the flash contacts do send lens information through it... and when you attach a fl-36/50 it helps the AF of the camera...I dont know, but it doesnt sound that impossible.

I HIGHLY doubt the flash contacts can send enough information over to form a high resolution image, or any image for that matter. Have you seen the EVF of the G1/GH1? It has a ribbon type connector with a ton of leads.

Here look:

Although I've never taken a close look at the flash contacts of the E-P1. I reaaally doubt this is possible. And this is the kind of thing a manufacturer would brag about I'd think.

EDIT: If anything.. maybe they'd make you connect the EVF to the mini-USB port on the camera.

And prankster is happy to read this thread

DSL happens over 4 conductors
USB happens over 4 conductors (and can easily carry SVGA)
composite video happens over 2 conductors

the Oly flash shoe has 5 conductors..

just sayin

Chance that these conductors are wired to high speed serial something-or-other: ZERO.

Being a FT5 I don't believe for one instant this wont't come true. The site would simply loose all it's credibility, and I'm sure it has taken a whole lot of work to build up.

The question now is what resolution/magnification does it have. Anything G1 level and I'll have to rethink the E-P1. Very little excuse to miss it now...

by all means cite any knowledge you have on this; Oly has a long history of doing things in surprising and interesting ways- like the original pen.

Be serious. This is a standard Olympus hot shoe with a standard Olympus pinout and standard functionality.

If there's an accessory EVF (which there certainly will not be) it will be driven off the USB port or, more likely, via the HDMI port.
