Yesterday I posted a question about getting the Sigma EF 500 super flash, and the only response I got was from a nice person who also wanted to know if the flash was good or not!

It seems that the only people who get any kind of response are people who ask the same stupid questions!
What lens should I get??
is the d60 a good camera??
hey look at the semi naked girls????

I am only a beginner and need a lot of help with some purchases!!! WOW! some one with a legit question!
But Nooooo we keep geting responses like
I like my 15-30 lens!
I hate my 15-30 lens!
I wish I had a 15-30 lens!
and so on and so on!
a post like this could go on for days!!!!!!!!!!

If this forum is to help people who need help, you could have fooled me!!

It seems to me like most people on this forum are not interested in helping, but more interested in wasting time, asking the same questions, getting the same answers!

I will admit that some of you are willing to help people, and are truly a big part of why I am sticking around! and I would like to thank you for that!

But a lot of you don't seem to care about helping people who need it! it's almost like the pros or semi pros only answer back to pros or semi pros! That's to bad because this is such a great hobby/profesion that it would benifit all people if we could get some simple advise on a simple question!

Now if someone would be so kind as to answer a simple question!

I am thinking about getting the Sigma EF500 supper flash, I will be using it to take photos of birds and wildlife in the field. Will it be able to sync up even in high iso and shutter speeds???
that's all I want to know.
and if you don't know the answer, please let me know.

Thank You
Paul..

Paul,

Don't mean to be rude but ... do a search. Just type in 'Sigma EF 500' and you will find over 10 pages of posts that will answer just about any question you have.
Self help is a wonderful thing.......

starting to tick me off too, you see 200 replies to some stupid post about people arguing. yet you post a simple question and no one can answer it. i've posted 2 questions worded differently, i've also replied to another asking a similar question saying my situation neither of us have got answered.

yet people bragging about something they have or L glass, or d60 underexposure, or slow AF blahblahblah. i don't even click on those anymore but its a waste of my time having to sort through them.

based both on MY own personal experience as well as any research I may have done on a given piece of gear. I've been involved with photography for over 25 years and was an early adopter of digital (I've been all digital for over 7 years now, more than most). There are a few folks here on this forum that have been all honked off about my "matter of fact" attitude, but I'll tell ya one thing, when I say it I really MEAN it. In most cases it's based on my hands on experience and I have no problems passing that on. I have had to take to issue some peoples comments made about equipment, that is baseless or or unfounded based on my experiences with it. That is not to say that there is a percentage of equipment out there that are factory defects or do not meet so called standards that the product should meet but don't. The REAL fact of the matter is GREAT photography is taken with just about every lens and every camera out there at some point. In the hands of the right person or the right moment in time, it IS possible. All the fussing and all the fighting get's one nowhere as far as results in the end.

A perfect example is your's as in the Sigma 15-30EX DG lens. Another is the whining over some that have had issues with their copies of the rather expensive Canon 16-35 2.8L. I can well understand if someone is having problems with a product they bought and want either confirmation or handholding for their troubles. But indeed sometimes it get's to be too much. I look at it 2 ways. You CAN get results from a lesser expensive product, and 2, you can get that great result a little "easier" at times with the more expensive product. Some of us (myself included) are at this point a bit spoiled, but frankly I like being spoiled. I don't think it's such a bad thing really, as long as you USE the stuff and don't just TALK about it. I only have a fraction of my work, for example, on my site, but that doesn't mean I don't create, just that I don't either have the rights (due to wedding contract agreements) or the inclination to list ALL of my work.

This absolutely unreal fixation over "Sharpness" has become like a disease at this point. I have about had it with those obsessed over that last tinch of sharpness and act like anything less is unusable. Some folks here and elsewhere need to get over this. I love a nice sharp lens like the next person, but I don't get crazy over something that isn't even likely to show up on an average 8 1/2x11 print anyway (considering that the average person doesn't go larger than that anyway. So hopefully some of the discussions can be tempered a bit (although I doubt it).

Paul,

Read this article, it should answer your questions.

http://photonotes.org/reviews/sigma-ef-500-super/

In a word, yes. It supports high speed sync, but there are subtle differences in the operation. The 550EX may be easier / more convenient to use in this regard according to the article. (I have the 550EX, and I don't own the sigma flash myself)

Oh I get it, if you want answers like the other posts that get 25-30 answers you have to pay a premium?? So how much do you pay???
or are we all on the some field but with different levels of experience?

Not a good comment

You're right. For the amount you're paying you should be getting
better service from us.

No - you really, really don't get it.

It's a free forum with ordinary folks taking their personal time to offer help to others with no expectation of getting anything back in return. These people owe you nothing, yet you come here demanding service and refusing to invest a little of your own time to help yourself by doing a search.

I have been lead to understand that Sigma will have a new flash out in the 500 range called 500 superD that is supposed to be 'closer' to the 550EX. It was in an article in a magazine this Spring (this is second hand info--told me by a friend, so I can' confirm it). I waited, looked for more info, etc., but finally bought the 550EX as I wanted to slave my 420EX and was unsure if the Sigma flash would do all I wanted. I did find a lot of info in the archives--just not what I was looking for.

The point I was trying to make is, if you are a newbe then you will not get any help, or get very little help!! you will beat a dead horse over and over, but a fresh new question, that I have not seen posted is ignored! yes I am sure a search would reveal the answer after some time, but I thought we were all hear to help one another get answers quickly. I guess I was wrong.

be less repeated questions and we could concentrate on answering
new ones !!
I did not want to spend hours reading through post to get my answer!

Hey Byron,

I read the link you mentioned and it was helpfull. I even called Sigma and asked about the x-sync and FP being cancelled when it dropes below the canons x-sync speed and found out that x-sync on a canon is 1/90th I usally shoot above this "1/250 - 1/1000" so I should be ok.

Thanks again for the info

And if sigma comes out with a EF 500 super D than with the money I saved I can buy that as a primary and keep the original 500 super as a secondary.

Thanks
Paul..

1. I work full time (7.00am to 6.00pm)

2. I have very little time for photography and can only spend 1-2 hours on this forum.
3. The little time I spend here is spent helping others.
4. It does get a little weary to answer the same questions over and over again.

5. Using the search function correctly will most times get you the answer quicker than waiting for someone to answer.
6. It's late here in Australia (midnight) and I am going to bed...up at 6.00am
