K-7 Dilemma

Based on the preliminary specs published to date, I'd sell both. The K7 looks like an enhanced K20 in a package not much bigger than the KM. However, as I have a K200D, don't take too much notice of my opinion :)

Hey
If you had a K20D and a K2000/KM, and wanted a K-7, which of the
other two would you keep, which would you sell? Why?
Exactly my situation and I wondered about that too.

I think I will sell the K-m if the K-7 has enough IQ improvements and is small enough that the K-m size advantage is not strong enough to keep it. The K-m is also annoyingly crippled (no AF point selection, small buffer, etc.) vs the the K20D. I have not taken any strong decision yet but I don't think I'll keep the K-m. I may even sell the K20D later this year.

For me if the K7 performs well, I'll keep my K20, give my k100 to my nephew, and dump my Canon 1D Mk IIN and the rest of the Canon stuff. That should give me more than enough for a K7 body and more Pentax glass.

I sure hope the K7 is a good camera. I have been wanting to get rid of my Canon for a long time. I do not like the look of Canon images(dslr).

In any case, I'd keep the K20.

I bought a 5d to replace my K20d and kept the K2000 for a small carry camera and for my wife who loves it.

I am split, because I really don't need full frame, and really don't need a new camera, but if I were to sell one I would sell the Canon 5d, and buy the K7. I might do this because having two lens mounts drives me nuts.

Here is why. The K2000 uses a CCD sensor that is great at low ISO, and at high ISO doesn't have the crosshatch noise that is so common on the CMOS sensors when push processed due to how the ADCs are on the chip and read out. It works great for high ISO B&W conversions, etc.

The two would compliment each other. With the K20d there is really no complimenting. The K-7 would be better in most ways and there would be little reason to use the K20d any more (except as backup).

I would sell the K20d and keep the K-m/K2000 since they compliment each other. Or you could just sell all of them and buy the K-7 too, as already mentioned. It is a bit smaller than the K20d but keeps all the features. I love the K-m but get annoyed by the lack of some features.

If there is possibility of using AA bateries in K7 grip, then k7 would compliment better with k2000.

because the KM is a tiny compact DSLR which you'd still use as its handy whereas the K20 is just the forerunner to the K7 with the same sensor, I very much doubt you'd touch it again.....

this, IMHO, alleged camera is fact along with a Product Code and Pricing and, of

course, that is only the beginning :D Then, there is specs, features (both necessary

and unnecessary) along with the inevitable ... which camera do I keep, which do I

sell and, really, do I really need this really new camera and will the S/HWMBO really allow me to do this ????

Lawson, do you have more than one DA* lens?
If yes, I think it's better to keep the K20D.

I have K20D only right now and both DA* 16-50 & 50-135mm.
And I've been thinking to get a second body to go total weather sealed combo :)
(even though it's hardly raining here in CA)

At first I was thinking to get a Km or K100D Super but now with this impressive K-7 features, I want to have this one. Similar sensor with K20D which means less hassle to figure out the PP ing method for photos from both cameras (K20D & K-7).

Later when Pentax release the new version of K2000 or K200, I might sell my K20D and go with that one.

I have K100DS, K20D and an Oly E-1.

On the theory that Pentax have made the sprititual successor to the E-1 (they even kept the hiphen in the name!), that's first to go from my list (and along with three Zuiko lenses should get me a decent way towards the cost of the K-7).

I have no doubt that K20D would be next to go - I see no reason why I would carry on using it if I had the K7.

But I do see a reason to keep the K100DS - it's small, I'm not going to get terribly upset if something happens to it, can be shared with other family members (kids!), and has the advantage of AA battery power. The IQ is pretty good too. And if it isn't going to be used terribly frequently, a set of lithium batteries will have it ready to go at a moment's notice - not the case with the rechargeable batteries that come with higher end kit.

So on that basis, if I was you I'd keep the KM and sell the K20D.

Firstly, you don't know for sure just how good the K-7 is. However, going on the assumption it is as good as it looks....

The K20 is superb, and has front and back wheel (which I can't live without), plus all teh necessary controls outside of the menus, so I'd get rid of the K-m

Keep K-m and buy K-7.
K20D should be sold.

K-m has CCD sensor and smaller and lighter than K-7.
CCD is good.

First Choice: Get rid of both the K20D and K2000. Get a K7 and a K2000 in either white or green. ;-)

Second Choice: Get rid of the K20D and replace it with the K7. BUT, I will not lend you my White K2000.

I just bought 2 K20D's and plan on getting the K-7 also. I sold my K10D's to get them.

You can NEVER have to many Pentax cameras :-)

I did sell my DS's also.
