I took a look at your photo and liked the way the color of the flowerbed draws the eye and creates a nice balance. I wish the sky had more color to it. A lot of my pictures have a very washed out sky. Is that something that can be corrected by exposure settings or do you need a filter?

It's a nice photo Juli. Sometimes I think it's just a popularity contest over there. I see good photos go by with hardly any response. And others that look pretty bad and they get a lot of three thumbs up. It probably just depends who is out there in the world looking at that time. Or else it just indicates how much people's taste varies.

I've been reading some comments by veteran users there how the critiques aren't helpful any more. Just a couple of "nice shot", or "good photo" type of comments from people hoping to get three thumbs up in return on their own photos. I still see good ones though, there are some good photographers giving good advice.

Should have posted it here. I think it is very well done. For photosig you need to increase saturation by 100% then do some fancy PSE work so it looks like a painting, bla, bla. Well you get the idea. LOL. Look at the third best picture on that forum. Don't get me wrong I think it is very pretty what I don't think is that it is a photograph any longer. Just my opinion. Please don't bypass us we enjoy your work. If you posted it here and I missed it I apologize.

Juli's work is very good and should GET praise, so lets all pile over there and give it the credit it deserves ! :)

I for one get more responses over there than I do here, it's all down to appeal and "readership" at the end of the day - Cute animal shots get big responses here which probably wouldn't there, on the other hand obscure stuff gets well rated there..

I think both places have there cliques equally. A couple days ago someone with a high point total rating submitted an average photo and the only people giving him points were others that had a high rating. I disagree that we should all go over there and pile on the points for anyone. If I receive praise from someone here I do not need for that person to pat me on the back a second time,it's just not necessary. That's why I never direct someone from here to a specific photo over there on photosig.

Juli, the photo is nice but as I have learned while photographing a large oak tree last week it's hard to get the lower branches illuminated which I think makes for a much better photograph. Can you take a photo of this tree in the early morning or evening and light up those lower branches ? In my case it's possible with that fence post oak tree you probably saw last week maybe it's not possible in your case ?!

I love the tree and garden Julie, and kept thinking that I'll bet there are many great photo opportunities in that garden. Being an old wedding photographer, I was always on the lookout for a public(assuming this is public) sight such as this. I would have loved to have had a sight like this many times over the years. Good job!

This oak tree is in southern Alabama. I'm going back there this fall. Maybe I can take another shot of it. It's in the gardens of the Grand Hotel in Poiint Clear. If you like bread pudding, they have the best ever.

Juli Valley,

The time of day does influence how much attention an image gets, or at least that is my impression. I usually put my images up between 10 and 11 PM EST. I left you a few comments on PhotoSig. I think it is a beautiful shot. With a different sky, this shot could easily have made the front page.

mine got some comments but not much points though...

I think that the flow of photos going on there is just too overwhelming for people.

Juli, I haven't seen many of your pics posted. Maybe I just not on when you post, but that is a wonderful old oak tree. The splash of color beneath just makes it come alive. Makes me want to walk under it and enjoy it (not rake its acorns though). Great shot! -- LC

Thanks for your thumbs. I tried to reply to all of the ones you posted here to be checked.

I wouldn't fret too much Juli... None of my photos ever get commented on, and they're 10 times better than yours.
