Here are a few night shots taken between 02.00am - 03.00am. I have to say my favourite is the first taken in 6mp DR mode with 800% DR. All of the others where taken in night scene mode, the last two where hand held.

Iv'e taken a few shots of Tower bridge at night with different cameras and it's a hard shot to get without blown highlights on the base of the towers, I think the F200 has done really well here.

EXR DR mode ISO 200 1/4Sec F3.3 DR800% Tri-pod

100% crop of picture above.

Night scene mode ISO 200 1/6Sec Tri-pod

Night scene mode ISO 200 1/8Sec Tri-pod

Night scene mode ISO 200 1/1.4Sec Hand held

Night scene mode ISO 200 1/1.8Sec Hand held

Beautiful shots. The F200 seems to really excel taking nighttime shots. I'm still playing with the settings for daytime photos. They seem to come out a bit flatter than I would like although that can be improved with a little PP.

Hi Paul,

Those night pics are very impressive. I'm keeping my beady eye on this F200EXR.
All the very best to you,

Arturo

Nice shots.

Does this mean you're coming round to the F200? You didn't seem to have good first impressions...

Those are very cool, I like them. I have a question about the last
shot, the Anchor. Are the small lights strung across the road
purple-ish in real life? or are they white?
Just curious, nice shots I would be happy with results like that from
such a small camera.

Thanks for your comment Ted, yes they where a bluish colour as I remember. I am very impressed by it's night time performance, blows away my F11 and F31FD.

Do you have a similar shot of the towers with your F31fd? Sounds
like you might. It would be interesting to see, even if it isn't
exactly the same.
I did have until I viewed the F200 pics! I promptly deleted them after seeing how the F200 blew it away.

I must say I love the F31 for daylight shots up to ISO 800 but feel all the hype about high ISO capability is false, anything above ISO 800 is horrible, why they put ISO 3200 on it I will never know.

I look at these shots, especially the first shot, and I am pretty amaze what this little camera can do.

I do not really fancy carrying around a larger SLR anymore (still have a couple of fully motorized Nikon F2 in my dry cabinet, those were the days) but I do wonder how much better a shot would a mid range DSLR be able to achieve for a similar situation (1st shot)? Would a mid range DSLR have as wide a dynamic range, JPEG out of the box?

My apologies if the question or comparison is not valid, but I thought it would help one to decide if one is deciding between a F200 or spending it on a used DSLR (if size is not an issue) instead. thanks

You would need to purchase the Fuji S5 Pro, still some around for £499.00.

I know you were asking Paul but...

Me too

I can understand your not wanting to carry around a DSLR.

This question will start wars. Who can answer "how much better"? ....and it just does not matter! You do not want a DSLR so why compare to it? You should rather ask it there any other small PS cams that can compare?

So what is it DSLR or PS? DSLR wins all the way around with the exception of size...so if you truly do not "really fancy carrying around a larger SLR anymore" your answer is obvious

I am not a photographer, I’m just a guy that takes pictures.

Probably, I also have a Panasonic G1, not really a true SLR but as close as you are going to get. I don't feel comfortable wandering around the back streets of London at gone midnight with a large camera on display. The Fuji fits in your pocket or even the palm of your hand so is easily hidden.

It depends on what you want to shoot, If you get a DSLR and only use a 14-45mm or 18-55mm kit lens then I would pick the F200EXR with its 28-140mm it will cover a wider range and the quality is very good. It will sit in your pocket and you can take it everywhere and get those shots you never expected to take.

DSLR's don't come much smaller than the G1 yet it gets left at home more now I have the F200...

Regards

Paul.
