Is it possible to turn of the LCD screen of the TZ7 to save battery power? I hear you thinking "why would you want to turn it off?"... well, I'm also going to use the TZ7 as a carcam or just mounted on a tripod to let it film (for instance, we just bought a new house and while I'm working on a particular area in the house I can point the TZ7 to that area and just let it film. Afterwards we can edit a nice video of it or speed it up for a nice effect).

In those cases I don't need any control over the TZ7 so the LCD screen isn't needed at that point. Iit would come in handy then to turn the LCD screen off to save battery power and keep curious eyes away from the camera. Please tell me that Panasonic made a button for this or implemented this feature somewhere in it's menu.

It would seem if they gave you a menu selection to turn off the LCD screen you wouldn't have access to the menus anymore to turn it back ON.....?

To save some power you can turn backlight off. But totally turning display off is impossible.

???? WHY DON'T YOU CONNECT TO AC POWER???

On my Canon you just have to press a button to turn the screen back on. Could have been a possibility.

That's also a possibility (although not very useful in a car for instance or they must bring out some kind of car adapter). Only too bad the AC power adapter is not included but sold separately.

Only that it is AC and it cost about $100!!

DMW-MCA1 + DMW-AC5

There is no other way but using the above combination.
And you cannot get them easily.

Only for 2GB per clip and then you must manually restart the video recording, so in essence battery life will not be your biggest determining factor for how long you can shoot video before hand to camera interaction is required. Get extra batteries, I found some for $19.95 at my local Fry's Electronics.

Don't forget to have fun.

There is no 2Gb limit on TZ7 in AVCHD video, it automatically creates new file after 2Gb without gaps, so if you have AC adapter you can fill up whole 32Gb SDHC card up to 4 hours video in full quality mode or almost 7hours in low quality mode

Is there not an power-saving mode like on the TZ3? That blanks the
screen after a short time; pressing any button will activate it again.

If so, that would be the same as turning the screen off and therefor the perfect solution! My Canon also has this feature. Rambalac... does the TZ7 has this feature (since I know you have the camera)? Please say yes :)

I think you're talking about a whole different camera :). Extra batteries for the TZ7 for only $19,95? No, I'm dreaming........... must... wake... up :)

Also like Rambalac mentioned, because of the AVCHD codec you can record up until the SD card is full (or when the battery runs out). Well, not with European TZ7 cameras, because they have a recording limit of 15 minutes per clip thanks to crappy EU tax regulations, but that's why I'm going to import a ZS3 from the US (Japanese TZ7 cameras also don't have this limit). Sometimes it truly sucks to live in Europe.

There is such thing, it turn display off, hide lens and turn camera off. It doesn't work while taking video.
