I don't have any store around to handle all 3 together and compare so I matched the 3 (E-3, E-30 and E-620) into one photo using the lens mount as a reference.

I was not really surprised by the difference from the E-3 to E-30 but the E-620 seems really diminutive compared to both.
Does this seem correct?

I would be interested to to see the E-510 compared with these as well.
I second that motion :D

And as it looks, my 14-54 will finally be able to sit level when on a flat surface if I get the e-30 (currently it hangs below the body's bottom, making large tripod heads problematic)

It is amazing to me that they were able to reduce the width like that (not to mention the thickness by about 11% too) while keeping the stuff from the 5x0 and adding a flippy twisty screen.

most of the width difference is due to the use of smaller battery

Olympus have delivered a new leader in functionality & IQ : size : cost which should
result in their best selling DSLR ever... a record previously held by the E-500.

It feels like a more chunky E-420 to me, but more dense... really solid.

I really think that Olympus are moving towards a pro spec, weathersealed small camera... this is a huge step in the right direction.

Any chance you could do an overlay with the D3x?

Cheers

You can see the E-30 is clearly smaller than the E-3, and in turn the e-620 is clearly smaller than the E-30.

the E-30 to me was decidedly smaller. Not a leaps and bound difference but enough for me to feel it and see it different.

The E-3 remains camera of choice for heavy duty outings (the Chatsworth horse trials/rally shooting spring to mind) - but today for London I have the E-30, PL 14-150 and G1, 4/3rds adapter, ZD 7-14.

I haven't seen any lens reviews for the Lumix 14-140 or 7-14 for m4/3rds but I hope the IQ will justify the cost.

I am talking about Size :-) But yes the weight advantage is there also.

I haven't seen the prices for the new u4/3rd lenses- didn't bother to hunt them in the press release. Is the u4/3rds Panny stratospheric (pricewise)?

It's the E-520 they used in their photo comparison, not the E-620..
which is odd since it was a review of the E-620.

I sit here looking at the E30 next to the E520 and a G1, and what the E30 seems to me to do, is pass below a certain weight / size threshold that matters enormously. You can't measure a point under which that happens .... but I think the Oly guys have found it.

It becomes handleable, chuckable, and actually compact, odd as it is to say. The bigger lenses fit it perfectly, as well as the lightweight 14-54II when it works as a one-handed camera ... never could do that with the E3 ...!

True that the battery is smaller but I am still surprised that didn't just bring it back to E510 size with the addition of the articulating screen (and its hinge system, etc). Not to mention making it thinner too.
