I am getting this sucker dialed in now I hope. I am finding servo settings I am comfortable with, and I am getting better results with my 1.4X.

It is weird. I measured the micro adjust at about 90 feet for the bare 500 and the 500+1.4x in one-shot and found both to be zero. One day I was shooting eagles and took a series of shots between -10 and 10 in servo mode on a sign on a dam that was basically infinity. I found the -10 sharper than -5 etc. So I set it to -10 and got much better results. Still have some work to sdo there.

Anyhow. I AM KEEPING IT :-). Here are some shots from the last few weeks at L&D 14 on the Mississippi in VERY cold sub-zero weather (I had my 500 malfunction for a bit). Hope you enjoy them.

Cheers,
Gene

these first two are full height vertical crops.

is they make everyone else's look so ordinary. Terrific as always!

Beautiful shots, Gene. Some great lighting too. You'll have to share your AF settings once you decide which ones seem to be working best for you. BIF can be similar to sports in some ways. Could be helpful to people.

Thanks for sharing these ... they are so awesome! I've sent this thread to several people I know. These are some of the nicest Eagles in flight I've seen.

Now I want that lens ... badly!

Vern

Well, I'm thrilled that you posted all of these so they opened with the thread and I didn't have to open another link to see them. So I applaud you for taking the time to post them all, and make life easier for me.

And, by the way, they are spectacular, as always. Thank you!

have you settled on camera settings as yet?

Richard

If so, you should contact either the state F&G or U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service--it'll be helpful. Very nice shots.

Hawkman. These are some of the finest Bald Eagle shots I have seen. And some of best clarity I have seen of moving objects. I hire many photographers in distant places and am always happiest when it's a IDs file I will receive. I have art directed lots of things with photographers and videographers. These are hands down some of the best BIF's. I hope Romy has a chance to take a look at your Eagles.

This collection would make a nice book. Number two would look fantastic on the wall for my son to view the symbol of the US. It's classic and classy. Without breaking rules on the forum it would be nice to know about obtaining a copy. And if I could use that one for a commercial application in the future, I certainly will be calling.
