Did you find the book "Adobe Photoshop 6.0 for Photographers"? This book is by Martin Evening. It's a production orientated book with a substantial focus on those using digital cameras. I'm sure they have one or will have one for PS 7.
Well I spent a few hours at a local bookstore. I was looking at
some PS books. 7.0, 6.0 and Elements. I couldn't find any that I
really wanted. Not as intuitive as Shay's examples. Maybe Shay
just spoils us. Anyway, this poll is a two parter.

1. Should he write a book?
2. Would you buy it?

:-)

I haven't seen a secret Shay wansn't ready to share ... I would most definetly buy a book writen by the great Shay. He is inovative, generous, talented, great guy and has a unique sense of humour ... that should be interesting ...

It would be up my alley. Shay's not only got lots of knowledge here, but uses words and diagrams to explains things wonderfully!

I will look at tha tbook too. I just am not too happy with Black and White examples in some of the PS7 books.... Maybe its just me. I expect all PS7 books to be in color. My expecctations might be too high.

I read and print Shay's examples. I would love it if he threw it in a book. I would most definitely buy it.

This book comes with "stunning color images" and "includes a cd-rom with movie tutorials in mac and pc format". The best thing is that it is not written like a manual.

Check it out!

One of the hardest things to accomplish - aside from being a good communicator (and Shay has proven that he is) is keeping the book current. By the time it gets written, goes to press and makes it to your door, the 707 will be long gone and most likely, PSE 2.0 would be in version 3.5. or higher.

That would all have nothing to do with Shay. Its just hard to keep "print" up with this kind of technology.

I have a two year old book on Digital Photography which has many laughable passages simply because the writter only had the latest technology of the times to write about.

However, even with the challenge of staying current, I think Shay could (and should) write a book. I would definately buy it.

An "E Book" would be more readily accessable, updateable and could offer some of Shay's fine examples but then I'd have to go get a PDA which I've been fighting for several years now...

A video-on-demand lesson would be another way to do it and it just so happens, I could help with that... (hehehe - read: free to me!)

Still, I have to agree, Shay has taught us well and he sets a high standard not only through his photography but in the online community as well.

I agree ... it's almost impossible to stay current. And yes, Shay should be compensated, if he chose to push it beyond what he "freely" contributes to this forum. For now, I simply print out his tips as he volunteers them. Perhaps his tips could be compiled on a web site.

If he made a cd on the how too's with the 707 it would be current. Anything he added about photoshop would be a bonus to me.

And yes, I would by it, or buy an e-mailed copy.

If one of us is laughing, and the other one isn't, one of us must be wrong...

This thread has gone in a couple of different directions. Funny. :-))

So, if Shay were to write a book, what should he write about?
1. Photography
2. Image editing

And who is the book for, exactly?
And how would you recommend he keep this book sufficiently current?

I'm sure people would be interested in both. If there is any doubt about that, then he could write two books!

Two books might make it easier for Shay so he won't feel rushed or pressured.

Myself, I'd be interested in both books (topics).

As far as keeping the books current, that's another story. Maybe he can have a "secret code" inside the book that allows access to "The Shay Zone" on his website, with updates. (where do I come up with this stuff?)

The best way to keep current would be to use a website. However, I feel that Shay should be compensated for all his hard work and generosity.

Maybe releasing a CD might be the best way. This way, he doesn't have to get into contracts, lawyers, publishing companies, and all that other icky stuff. (Unless of course he secretly wants to be a writer.) This way he could continue to share with us, and we could return the favor by contributing to Shaytech Corporation.

Updates will be needed as soon as the first CD is burned, so I would imagine Shay would continue to post new ideas in this forum. When the ideas have accumulated (as they have now) we will be asking for "Volume 2" or "Shay's Secrets 1.2" or something.
